A luxury Moroccan escape

Your upcoming trip

Morocco is a country of extremes, from the soaring Atlas Mountains to the spice-infused hubbub of the medinas - and that goes for its luxury accommodation too!

The ineffable style and oppulence of Kasbah Tamadot welcomes you to the Atlas Mountains. You'll be treated to massages in the rose garden, top-shelf cuisine, and a plethora of activities, from treks up the highest peaks in north Africa to river rafting in the Ourika Valley.

From snow-laden mountains to the languid Moroccan Desert. Sway over the dunes on a camel by day and recline in a secluded spot under the stars by night. Enjoy a pampering stay at a castle in the desert where you'll dine anywhere you like and explore the beautiful 'Oasis of 1000 Palms'.

Heated pools, exquisite cuisine, and plush suites await at the Mandarin Oriental in Marrakesh. A worthy home in the idyllic Palmeraie, either head to the flurry of Morocco's most famous city to peruse the souks, or simply lay back and let the desert breeze wash over you. There's equal portions of both!

Check in to Kasbah Tamadot

Should you be wondering which kasbah caught the eye of a billionaire on a hot air balloon flight over Morocco, Tamadot did just that and was quickly transformed into a luxury hideaway in the Atlas Mountains. Previously owned by a world-renowned antiquarian, it's brimming with stunning oil paintings and ornate tapestries and antiques from across the world. Lose track of time while exploring the rose-scented gardens, or with a deep tissue massage in the spa tent amongst the fruit trees. And the cuisine? It's (almost) too good to eat, with specialities including spiced lamb tagine, local favourite, pigeon pastilla, and roasted pears with mascarpone for dessert.

What you can do in The Atlas Mountains

Days 1 - 4

Rising quite unexpectedly at the edge of the Sahara Desert, the Atlas Mountains are the highest point in North Africa and impressive as they come. Most travellers make a beeline for one of the beautiful kasbahs with their incredible views, secluded locations, and heavenly hamman treatments. From there, explore the mountains on foot, mule or horseback, or mountain bike - or make the hair-raising drive along the Tizi-n-Test Pass. There also a number of stand-out natural gems to visit, including the rainbow-hued hills of Salt Natural Park, or try your hand at rafting in the Ourika Valley and trekking to the summit of snow-capped Mount Toubkal. If you plan to do a spot of skiing, January is your best bet.

Check in to Dar Ahlam

Veiled from the world by swathes of palms and miles of dunes, Dar Ahlam is a 200-year-old kasbah, which was brought back to life in order for the owner to live his dream of sharing the 'old' Morocco with guests. A well-hidden getaway between the Sahara and snowy mountain peaks, the hotel centres every day around you. Meals take place wherever you'd like: breakfast in the Berber ruins, lunch beside tranquil Ouarzazate Lake, or dinner in the candlelit gardens. With its high turrets of champagne-coloured earth, dreamy suites and views of the far-away Atlas Mountains, it's easy to see why Dar Ahlam means 'House of Dreams'...

What you can do in Skoura and surrounds

Days 4 - 7

With the Atlas Mountains in the distance, an Oasis of 1,000 Palms in between and the endless terracotta dunes, Skoura and its surrounding landscape is postcard-ready. Explore the Valley of the Roses on foot, by bike, cycling through the palmeraie, or atop a camel with a ride along the knife-edges of the dunes. Then, venture over to the ancient Berber city of Ouarzazate where there are jam-packed souks and tagines to rival the best of them.

Check in to Amanjena Resort

With its rose-hued columns, reflecting pools that mirror the desert sky, and delicious, minimalist style, Amanjena echoes the ruined palaces of old Marrakesh. We'd expect nothing less than perfection in an Aman property - and there really is something special about this one. Lilting music echoes through sweeping archways and palm-filled courtyards, key-hole doorways lead into private gardens, and the spa treatments are wickedly good. Amanjena means 'peaceful paradise' and, in its ethereal hallways and quiet gardens, we couldn't agree more...

What you can do in Marrakesh

Days 7 - 10

Perhaps the most famous of Morocco's cities, Marrakesh has been the country's heart and soul for over 1,000 years. The Djemaa El Fna square is first on the list, its melee of snake charmers, musicians and dancers creating an intoxicating atmosphere, especially as the sun sinks in the evening. Dig into the city's incredible history, visible on visits to the 12th-century Koutoubia Minaret, gilded Saadian Tombs, and its magnificent palaces and then get to know her thriving creative side at the Museum of Moroccan Arts, the Islamic Art Museum at Les Jardin Marjorelle (a beauty spot if there ever was one) and the Villa Oasis, once the home of Yves Saint-Laurent. And for the best view around, hop into a hot air balloon and the magic unfold below you...
