Embark on a honeymoon that transcends the ordinary at Masoala Tented Camp, where romance intertwines with the untamed beauty of nature. Nestled in an emerald rainforest and bordered by the pristine beaches (and crystalline waters) of the Masoala Peninsula, this secluded paradise offers an idyllic blend of adventure and serenity.
Imagine waking up to the symphony of the forest, spending your days exploring the rich biodiversity of both land and sea, and evenings under the stars with the soothing sound of the ocean. Here, luxury meets sustainability, providing a perfect backdrop for newlyweds to create unforgettable memories.
You will be met on arrival at Ivato International Airport and driven to Grand Hotel Urban.
30mins
As the name might suggest, the Grand Hotel Urban is right in the centre of Madagascar's capital city. With 45 rooms spread over seven floors, it's one of the grander hotels around, and its meticulous, neutral decor creates an elegant and stylish retreat amid the bustle of the streets and markets. Antananarivo, or 'Tana' as everyone knows it, is a chaotic sort of place, but if you're willing to take the time to explore it, there's plenty of charm around too, and the Urban is perfectly positioned for a walking tour - or a G&T on the roof where a view of the city might be all that's needed!
The sky bar! Ask a barman to mix you a top-class cocktail, and enjoy it with a fantastic view of Tana, day or night.
Sprawled across the hills, Madagascar’s capital city is packed with history, which is best discovered on foot. Highlights include the Cathedrale Catholique d’Andohalo, the ruins of the Rova palace complex (once home to the rulers of the Kingdom of Madagascar) or its recovered artifacts in the Musee Andafiavaratra, and learn about Madagascar’s many tribes at the Musée de l’Art et de Archéologie. Head a little out of the city to marvel at the World Heritage Site of Ambohimanga, sacred grounds with incredibly-preserved royal residences and graves. Get a sense of modern-day Madagascar at the lively Analakely Market and pick up hand-made souvenirs at La Digue Market, learn to make chocolate the Madagascan way and satisfy your taste buds at one of Antanarivo’s fabulous restaurants.
After a quick breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for your 90 min charter flight to Maroantsetra, followed by a 2 hr boat ride to Masoala.
In a clandestine cove (it's only accessible by boat!) on the north-eastern coast of Madagascar, Masoala Forest Lodge is the beach escape you've been dreaming of. Smack-bang in between a private rainforest reserve and the sparkling Indian Ocean, Masoala is as suitable for doing absolutely nothing as it is for days filled with snorkelling, hikes, and whale watching pirogue trips. The former takes place in the waiting hammock on your private deck or a sunny spot on the sand - and always with something chilled in hand. In the evenings, be sure to keep an eye out for the aye-ayes who often wander into camp.
From the comfort of the lodge you explore the wildlife and beauty of this natural paradise with activities including forest walks, snorkelling, kayaking, traditional pirogues, swimming in the sea and the crystal clear streams, whale watching, fishing and experiencing sustainable life in the rainforest with the local Malagasy community.
The warm, coral-rich waters of the Tampolo Marine reserve, offer exciting snorkelling right off the beach. The sea kayaks are ideal for exploring the islands, reefs, rivers and deserted beaches of the sheltered coastline or just to watch the magic of the sunset on the forested mountains.
Nature lovers will be in paradise at Masoala Forest Lodge. This densely forested peninsula contains the largest remaining block of protected rainforest and harbours an important part of the fauna and flora of Madagascar, including a wealth of rare and unique species.
The island of Madagascar has been described as an “alternate world” because of the uniqueness and rarity of many of its plant and animal species. As an island isolated for almost 70 million years – roughly 150000 of the 200,000 known species found here, exist nowhere else. You would expect plethora of dangerous species – but amazingly the island has been spared anything venomous. Instead, the rainforests and tropical waters teem with weird and wonderful yet harmless creatures and plantlife – each unique species waiting to be discovered – like some planetary treasure trove of life.
