Views are the name of the game at Acacia and the living and dining areas are raised up to make the most of the jaw-dropping vistas of the plantation and wilds beyond. The buildings are modern which may come as a shock if you are stepping straight off a muddy Land Rover in the bush, but they are light, stylish and airy. Meals are often served al-fresco next to the swimming pool or in the gardens, which is a lovely extra. Grab a icy drink from the bar and get ready to soak up the view!
The 32 cottages are quite simply enormous with separate entrance halls, living areas and bedrooms with en-suites. Black and white artwork, glass vases and white, wood furnishings add a contemporary almost Scandinavian style and there’s a lovely crisp and fresh feeling. Finishing touches are the balconies looking out to those wonderful views and the fragrant toiletries and fluffy robes in the bathrooms.
If you’ve been darting around northern Tanzania in a safari vehicle, change the pace and explore rural Africa on mountain bike trips through the forests, guided nature and bird walks, and visits to the local village to spend time with the modest Iraqw tribe. Similarly, if you haven’t yet embarked on your safari, game drives in the northern parks are very easily arranged and the Ngorongoro Crater in particular is most certainly worth a visit.

The jewel in Tanzania’s crown where the Big Five roam free and there’s an animal around every corner.
