Located just where where dramatic cliffs tumble into the Indian Ocean below, on the southwestern tip of Bali's Bukit Peninsula, the Alila Villas feel like you're at the end of the world. Here, it's all about world-class surf breaks, stunning sea temples and sublime beaches, including the pristine white sand of its own. The resort's design is free-flowing and open, its exteriors framing the natural beauty on every side. The team is warm and attentive and will ensure everything goes without a hitch, whether it's afternoon tea at the Sunset Cabana Bar or a Balinese massage at the spa.
From $490 person/night
The location and the vistas are out of this world, especially from the pool.
Look out for the resort's fabulous lobster brunch, served along with good music, wine and cocktails.
The one-bedroom villas are set further away from the cliff's edge so the view may not be as impressive as the three-bedroom options.
Surrounded by lush tropical foliage, the infinity pool is right at the front of the Alila Villas and gazes out across the bay. Just next door, the Sunset Cabana Bar is suspended over the cliff's edge and serves chilled cocktails in an even more chilled-out atmosphere. For food, the Warung is an open-air eatery celebrating local flavours, while CIRE serves a variety of pan-Asian and Mediterranean fare made with locally-sourced ingredients. There's also a spa for an exfoliating body scrub or spoiling massage.
Fresh and tropical, each villa is a sanctuary. You'll have the choice of a one or three-bedroom villa, the latter of which are closer to the cliff edge, and all have their own private pools and a cabana for the ultimate indoor-outdoor living. Recycled and local materials are used throughout, including heat-absorbant lava rock roofs and bamboo ceilings for added airflow. Each villa is looked after by a butler who's on hand 24/7.
There are gorgeous beaches to laze upon – or learn to surf for the more active – or head a little further out on a 'jukung' tour of Jimbaran Bay with plenty of swim and snorkel stops along the way. Guests of Alila can also enjoy private access to three of the most sacred temples on Bali's southern coast, as well as the chance to join the priests in prayer and meditation. You'll also have the chance to learn a few Balinese dance moves or try your hand at the rindik.
