If your dreams of Cambodia wouldn't be complete without a whole lot of adventure, the jungle-packed world of Cardamom National Park is the place you need to be. Under the never-ending creativity of designer Bill Bensley, every inch of Shinta Mani Wild was created to share something utterly unique. Join the chef on a foraging expedition (for that evening's dinner ingredients), take a dip in the 33m-long clifftop Cistern and explore the hidden spaces of the park with your Adventure Butler. The best part? Shinta Mani works even harder to protect Cardamom's wildlife than it does to impress its guests.
From $1,350 person/night
Nothing is unintentional here! From famous guests to quirky traditions, be sure to ask what the story is. The bar's Welsh carousel horse? It houses a bell that's rung when someone ziplines in for the first time.
If you'd like to really prove your adventure chops and lend a hand in the camp's conservation efforts, join the anti-poaching patrol for an afternoon of destroying traps.
At Shinta Mani, guests have to stay a minimum of three days but with its remote location, you wouldn't want to leave any sooner.
In true explorer style, The Headquarters restaurant supplies early bird breakfasts before hikes and dinners freshly foraged from the jungle - think mud crabs and wild potatoes. Served at bamboo-style tables, the daily changing menu features more classic cuisine too. Only reached by zipline, The Landing Zone bar is eccentric to a 'T' with views of the Raging Big Sister Falls from the massive daybeds and cocktail classes too. At the forest's edge, Khmer Tonics offers a soothing space to enjoy river stone foot massages in a waterfall pool and herbal treatments.
In locations specially chosen over seven years, the collection of luxury tents are perched over waterfalls or atop boulders. As stylish as they are 'wild', the tents are furnished with ornate wooden beds, funky animal-print couches and even a tin bathtub on the terrace. Explorer-chic accents like old school lanterns and trunks are dotted around, and individual touches (and names like the First Lady Jackie Kennedy's Tent) include themed murals and handcrafted decor. The largest tent is accessed by wooden walkways over the rapids with two bedrooms - plus the option of a glass Jungle Capsule sleepout.
It comes as no surprise that activities are not in short supply. Hike into acres of thick forest to spy a pillated gibbon, and plenty of butterfly and birdlife. Take a trip down the river on a pontoon-style boat (with a bar and spa treatments), which can drop anchor for spontaneous kayaking anywhere you fancy including sundowners on a stone island. Go mountain biking down rugged trails, monitor endangered species with the resident naturalist or see the park from the air on a ziplining expedition (with the reward of a G&T at the end).
