Previously known as Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp, &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge offers relatively exclusive access to a park well known for its swarming game and its popularity with wildlife lovers. The sustainably-designed lodge, tucked into tall evergreen woodland on the banks of a Grumeti River tributary in the Serengeti's remote western corridor, combines an earth-bound design with a sophisticated edge. The location is excellent for game and bird viewing, and its guides have an impressive knowledge of their surroundings. Add to those attractions, faultless service levels and great accommodation, and you're looking at one of the best camps in the vast Serengeti.

Grumeti & The Western Corridor, Serengeti, Tanzania
The unmatched yet exclusive views on display from every deck, pool and dining spot.
If you'd like to break up the safari experience with a little R&R, book an in-suite 'Healing Earth' treatment or a private yoga session by the pool. And if you're bringing the kids, the WILDchild activities will keep them engaged and inspired.
The camp's position on an oxbow lagoon in the river is a popular crossing point for zebra and wildebeest during the migration, and whilst the crossings might not be quite as intense as the Mara River spectacles, they are well worth a watch!
The main lodge comprises several well-considered areas inspired by the curve of the river and traditional Maasai manyattas: a spacious open-plan lounge adorned with Kitenge fabrics and bespoke furnishings; an artfully-designed circular bar and lovely infinity pool overlooking the river. Expansive breakfasts are a true guest favourite, most lunches are served on the shaded wooden deck and why not join the chefs in the interactive kitchen? The camp also has one of the nicest boma areas around, serving artisanal pizzas, whole-baked fish (and more) around a central fireplace, at private tables with soft sand underfoot.
Appearing to float atop of the landscape, the 10 spacious suites (including a 2-bedroom family villa) are uber-stylish yet harness the feel of a safari camp with canvas walls and banana fibre ceilings. They are spread out along the river's edge, each with commanding views of the hippo-laden lagoon, from a private plunge pool no less. Sliding doors open on to private viewing decks where you can soak up the action, a view that's enjoyed from your bathtub too.
There's fantastic game viewing year-round and your guide will always set out to see something special, but nothing beats the huge herds of plains game migrating through the Grumeti during May, June and July. There's always a good chance of seeing sizeable prides of lion and impressive packs of hyena, as well as other predators like cheetah, leopard and even serval. Look out for black and white colobus monkeys - they're found nowhere else in the Serengeti. You'll also have the chance to explore the area on foot or from the basket of a hot air balloon.
A pioneer in sustainable tourism since 1991, &Beyond aims to expand its impact by 2030. Through partnerships and doubling investment, they have set a target of conserving 40 million acres of key biospheres while offering exclusive travel experiences. By doubling revenue and tripling profit, they seek to leave a positive footprint in Africa, Asia, and South America, empowering communities and preserving wildlife.
Show all wildlife
The Serengeti National Park is an ecologically rich environment and home to vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, Thomson's gazelle and buffalo grazing on the sweet grasses of the savannah. Even after the Great Migration has moved through, the game viewing is exceptional in this region. The predators are never far off, with cheetah and lion in abundance and leopard readily seen in the Seronera region of the Central Serengeti. Enjoy expansive grasslands, acacia thickets, meru kopjes (granitic hills) and riverine forests.
