Hidden deep in the lush Keliki Valley, it's only the dark pitched roofs of the tents that give away Capella's location. Designed by interiors-guru Bill Bensley, who was inspired by the style of 19th-century spice trade explorers, every corner is perfectly curated and absolutely beautiful. Your moments of peace and adventure will be taken care of by a dedicated 'Capella Culturist' who will happily organise everything from cooking classes to village visits, hikes into the jungle to sunrise accents up Mount Batur. Every experience will be designed to your tastes (planned in the central Officer's Tent, which turns into a soiree spot at dusk) and when you're not off exploring, your private heated pool awaits.
The Capella has two restaurants; the first offers an intimate Asian barbecue experience with 10-course tasting menus and the second serves local, sustainably-sourced plates like crab tacos and duck in coconut bark in a tented dining room. Don't skip one of the fantastic cocktails either; our favourite is the Cistern, prepared with vodka-infused yoghurt, almond syrup, cardamom and rose water. Cocooned in the forest at the centre of camp is the tranquil spa, where you can enjoy wonderful Balinese treatments.
Every moment spent at Capella feels special and one-of-a-kind, from the storytelling sessions around the campfire to the visits to the organic garden.
A two-bedroom lodge is available for families, groups or anyone looking for more space. It has uninterrupted views of the valley and a 19-square-metre pool.
The river tents may not be suitable for families with small children or guests with mobility requirements due to the location and number of steps.
