About Chacma Bush Camp

Watch elephants amble past this family-friendly camp in the Greater Kruger
The camp’s perimeter is hugged by Mopane woodlands which are a major drawcard for a wealth of wildlife. Elephants, bushbuck, kudu and plains game are commonly spotted in these woodlands, and can be viewed from the comfort of the deck area surrounding the sparkling swimming pool. There's a natural waterlogged area in front of camp which provides wildlife with much needed replenishment during the heat of the day.

Property details

The property

Rock walls and dirt paths lend Chacma its rustic charm. The outdoor, but covered, dining room and open-air lounge blend the style and comfort of smart furnishings with the ever-present air of anticipation that a furry or feathered local may pass. The setting is definitely entrancing, ideal for devoted bush-lovers and first-timers alike. Adding to the comfort is a cool pool, set at the edge of the deck, within view of the waterhole frequented by a steady stream of wildlife.

The rooms

With just three chalets, Chacma keeps things intimate. Each stone-and-thatch cottage has a different configuration to accommodate families of three, four or six in entirely adequate quarters. You can expect comfortable mattresses, en-suite facilities with walk-in showers, and aircon. Each has a private patio with views of the bush or the waterhole. There's a gratifying sense that the furniture is extremely well made, and that the rooms are immaculately clean.

Activities

You'll spend most of your time traversing this wilderness in a 4x4, because it's simply the best way to catch a wide range of wildlife going about their daily lives. All of the Big Five are present here, plus several other iconic African species – hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra, baboon, impala, kudu, and some 470 bird species. Take a gentle walk to a rocky outcrop to enjoy the sounds and sense of this magical wilderness, free of distraction.

What you'll love

What you'll love

The frequent and rather marvellous sightings in front of camp, thanks to a well-placed waterhole – elephants and the camp's namesake baboons are the most regular visitors.

Book Klipspringer Chalet for its thrilling outdoor shower, or Steenberg Chalet, which has a cut-above-the-rest view of the waterhole.

Something to think about

Families are very welcome but parents should keep a constant eye on children due to the camp's unfenced nature.
