Despite being just a five-minute drive away from central Ubud and the buzz of Bali's art and crafts scene, Como Uma feels miles away from anyone or anything. Set amongst gardens filled with tropical trees and overlooking the serene Tjampuhan Valley, the rooms and villas have a fresh, modern feel that embody the sense of 'home' that Como Uma celebrates. This is mostly down to the team who go above and beyond at every possible moment, whether that's as you sip on a jasmine tea- and ginger-infused martini from the pool bar or on one of the fantastic activities, organised just for you.
The beautifully-designed spa offers Asian-inspired massages, body polishes and even Javanese Royal Lulur Baths, a seriously special treat if you're feeling a little weary. For a cool down between activities, head to the secluded, 25-metre pool, or lounge with a glass of wine from the extensive list. A wonderful breakfast spread is served at the open-air dining pavilion while dinner can be enjoyed at Uma Cucina with its Mediterranean menu and top-tier cocktails curated by a leading London mixologist.
There are 46 rooms, suites and villas scattered throughout the gardens, set in thatched balés and designed with the light touch of Koichiro Ikebuchi. Light-filled and draped in white, they feature indigenous materials, four-poster beds and chic bathrooms with huge tubs and fantastic views. Amenities vary between rooms but you can choose from private terraces, plunge pools with sensational valley views, or open-air courtyards to recline in. Some suites and villas have an extra bedroom, making them ideal for families.
Como Uma has a bevy of activities on offer including guided walks through the paddy fields, sunrise hikes along the scenic Tjampuhan Ridge, and rafting adventures on the Ayung River. You can also head into central Ubud to try your hand at traditional crafts like batik, puppet making or mask painting, or take the chance to visit Ubud Market to browse the collection of silk sarongs and hand-made wicker items. Back at the resort, yoga classes are offered throughout the day.
The views are out of this world, whether you're gazing into the luscious valley below or looking out for colourful birdlife in the jungle.
Most of the rooms have a spectacular view but the pool villas are hard to beat. Whilst wallowing in your infinity pool, take in vistas of the valley all the way down to the tranquil Oos River.
Don't expect to walk out of your villa and straight onto the streets of Ubud. However, Bali's artistic hub is an easy walk away, or opt for Como Uma's complimentary shuttle ride.
