About Davison's Camp

In the dry winter months, this park offers game viewing on par with the very best. The density of large mammals concentrating around the waterholes is staggering. It is not uncommon to see hundreds, if not thousands of Cape buffalo and elephants in a single day. Davison's camp offers warm, inviting service and front-seat access to this spectacle. The layout of the camp provides plenty of privacy and at the same time funnels your attention to the very active waterhole and plain in front of you. This camp affords one all of the benefits of the park, without sacrificing any of the comforts of a private safari.

Highlights

Watching giant herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as zebra, impala, giraffe, even a pride of lions come down to drink at the waterhole in front of camp.

Highly trained guides transform everything you see, hear, even smell, into part of an ongoing narrative complete with their own stories, making this a very personal, three-dimensional experience.

Trailing an elephant bull on foot through a woodland of ancient African rosewood, teak and camelthorn acacia trees, gives one an appreciation of the grandness of this landscape and its inhabitants.

The property

Davison's draws you in and turns you outwards. Clever architectural lines accentuate the sense of space whilst focusing your attention on the details in front of you. The open-air fireplace, the secluded pool, the private deck above the generous lounge and dining room, all point to an experience beyond the camp. Where the veranda ends the plains begin - no fence or railing to separate you from the elephants splashing or the lions lying in wait at the camp's waterhole.

The rooms

Nine well spaced tents, including one double-size family suite, sit nestled under old rosewood trees. From the edge of this woodland, each tent has a private and expansive view of the plain and waterhole in front of them. The rooms are simple yet more than adequate, complete with en-suite bathrooms, twin beds and a small outdoor sitting area. Large mesh windows ensure an all-round vista of the surrounding bush and its wildlife.

The advantage of this private concession within the national park is the high density of wildlife and low density of tourists. Thus, game-viewing is exclusive and not limited to daylight hours. The use of a spotlight after dark affords you the opportunity to observe the lesser-seen nocturnal species. Private walks led by highly qualified guides present an entirely different, close-to-nature encounter. At an extra cost, you can also experience a slice of Zimbabwean culture through a visit to nearby Ngamo village.
