Named for the royal Mughal dynasty who ruled great swathes of Asia for almost two centuries (and famous built the nearby Taj Mahal), this hotel certainly lives up to its lineage. Dressed in opulence, The ITC Mughal is the only hotel in India to have won the prestigious Aga Khan Award for its beautiful architecture and the rich, intricate interiors are no less noteworthy. Outdoors, Agra is loud and more than a tad chaotic, but into the ITC and you'll feel a world away from it all as you wander through the 23-acres of carefully manicured gardens, indulge in the fabulous hamam and spa, or relax by the outdoor pool..
From $60 person/night
Foodies will delight in the seemingly endless choice of restaurants and cuisines to be sampled!
Head to the Kaya Kelp Royal Spa and enjoy heavenly Ayurvedic treatments, customised to your specific dosha.
Whilst you can see the Taj Mahal from the hotel's roof terrace, the views aren't spectacular and there are better to be found.
Bedecked in a regal palette of scarlet and cream, the interiors of the ITC are warm, luxurious and serene. You'll be hard-pressed to find fault with any of the glorious facilities, whether cooling off in the outdoor pool, lounging on the sundeck, luxuriating in the spa, or dining in some of the best-rated restaurants Agra has to offer. Our favourite has to be Peshwari for its delectable selection of kebabs and delicious Indian breads, all enjoyed in a canopied setting that will make you feel like royalty.
With 233 rooms on offer there really is something for everyone (and every wallet), from the Mughal Rooms right up to the whoppingly-luxurious Grand Presidential Suite. All feature King-size beds - perfect for flopping into after a long-day of sightseeing - and plenty of marbled surfaces, bold, geometric patterns and floor-to-ceiling windows. In the Presidential Suite, enjoy the mother of peal bath, twin four-poster beds (a different one for each night?) and the private plunge pool.
As well as excursions to explore the hustling, bustling town of Agra and of course the magnificent Taj Mahal, the ITC offers plenty of in-house activities too. Wander through the expansive grounds and inhale the scents of the pomegranate and frangipani trees, play a game of tennis and badminton, picnic on lawn, or even take a spin on the dirt bike track.
