Sprawling across 133 square kilometres in Kenya's Masai Mara ecosystem, Olare Motorogi Conservancy lies on the southwestern edge of the eponymous national reserve. This community conservancy, with its open plains, thorn trees and grassy rolling hills, forms part of a critical conservation area within the Masai Mara. And it's here, in one of Africa's most lion-rich ecosystems, that you'll find Kicheche Bush Camp – a small, unfenced retreat in the heart of the action. It's a place for adventure so if watching game or even the migration from your bed, knowing the animals are close by, appeals, then it’s best to plan a visit...

Mara Conservancies, Masai Mara, Kenya
The team here are passionate and kind and the guides are some of the best you'll find in the Mara - and having guided BBC film makers, award-winning wildlife photographers and even a few celebrities, you're in very good hands.
The expertly-run vegetable garden is a treat! Ask the managers for a behind-the-scenes tour and meet head chef Kisombe whilst learning more about how the remote kitchen produces their five-star meals.
This is no place to put your feet up. The camp's focus is on safari, safari, safari and you can expect to be out from sunrise to sunset - with a good amount of tasty treats to keep you going, of course.
Tucked among the thorny acacia trees is the central area, with its comfortable and subtly stylish main dining and lounge tent. A large square table seats everyone for meals, and beautiful decorative kelim carpets cushion your feet. An outside fire pit, ringed with canvas directors' chairs and decorated with an interesting collection of skulls and bones, is the perfect spot to watch the night roll in, with the flames crackling before you and the starry sky your canopy.
Six expansive canvas tents stretch out on the grassy hillside around the camp. All face out to the surrounds, with nothing to interrupt the views. The tents themselves are very 'Out of Africa" in tone, with classic safari comfort and an uncluttered lounge area. Accessed via a large roll-up mosquito-protection wall is the main bedroom, with its super-comfortable bed and warm white cotton sheets. To one side is a small bathroom. You'll have no problem settling into the Kicheche experience.

The lack of set game-drives means you can plan your safari experience exactly as you wish. Want to spend the day with lions? Or see some of the 50 raptor species? That can be done. And, being in a low traffic area, you'll probably be the only vehicle in the area. Visit a local village, take a hot air balloon ride, picnic in the bush, or inspect the wilderness on a walking safari. The guides here are extremely knowledgeable.

The Masai Mara is Kenya's flagship conservation region: a place of rolling plains, bush scrub and acacia thicket— known for the seasonal great wildebeest migration, a mass movement of more than two million, wildebeest, zebra, kongoni, topi and gazelle. As exciting as this phenomenon is, there is so much more to this wilderness. Encounter elephants, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, crocodiles and a variety of cats including lion, cheetah, leopard and the shy serval during a stay in these parts.
