Located in pleasingly unspoiled surroundings and designed to have minimal impact on the environment, Kicheche Mara Camp is a great destination if you enjoy seeing wildlife stroll past your doorstep. Here, in the less-visited Mara North Conservancy, game viewing pretty much starts right out of the camp's mess tent, between the wild olive trees and thorny bush that surround the camp. Snug and rustic, without compromising on comfort or quality, Kicheche Mara is the kind of camp where you end up feeling more at home than you would anticipate.

Mara Conservancies, Masai Mara, Kenya
This is one of the original Mara camps and the dedication to maintaining super high standards across the camp shows. Faultless!
Immerse yourself fully into the wilds and book the last tent on the end of the row - you'll find yourself snoozing as the night visitors scratch and sniff outside.
The camp is located on the edge of an area that serves as home for many Maasai families as well as the wildlife, so you may well be visited by passing cows whilst you watch your cheetah stalking it's prey
Two simple open-sided canvas tents serve as the main dining and lounge areas. Their decor is subdued Kenyan style and very stylish, with comfortable cream couches, beautiful natural fibre carpets and distinctive Masai shukas. But it's the setting that really takes your breath away. The camp is hidden in a beautiful acacia valley overlooking the Olare Orok stream, with views over the plains. Relax in the little well-stocked library – it's a perfect spot to admire the wilderness.
Eight tents on cobble-stone platforms are scattered among the trees. The interiors are spacious, with stylish attention to detail. The beds are chunky, the mattresses are comfortable and the linens are good quality. In front of each is a small under-canvas veranda with directors' chairs – the ideal place to sit back and gaze at the huge views and the game, and the monkeys frolicking in the trees around you.

Full and half-day games drives allow you to get close to the enormous herds that form the Loita Migration during July. Investigate the bush on a guided walks, picnic in the wilderness or visit a local Masai village to learn about the culture and history of these wonderfully warm people. A fun option would be to sleep beneath Africa's sensational stars in a fly camp, which is reached via a guided walk through the bush. There's good birding too.
Show all wildlife
The Masai Mara is Kenya's flagship conservation region: a place of rolling plains, bush scrub and acacia thicket— known for the seasonal great wildebeest migration, a mass movement of more than two million, wildebeest, zebra, kongoni, topi and gazelle. As exciting as this phenomenon is, there is so much more to this wilderness. Encounter elephants, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, crocodiles and a variety of cats including lion, cheetah, leopard and the shy serval during a stay in these parts.
