Kuro is located in the middle of the Tarangire National Park, a stone's throw from the Tarangire River and the airstrip (always handy). The landscape here is pretty and lush and there’s plenty of wildlife on hand year-round, which, more often than not, can be viewed from Kuro itself. The camp is an understated, unpretentious sort of place that lets the surrounding scenery do the talking – but there are plenty of bush-chic touches dotted around too. Then there’s the enthusiastic and knowledgeable guiding team who will bring you face to face with enormous herds of elephant, buffalo and the infamous tree climbing lions. Excellent all-round, we say.
From $770 person/night
Strolling out of your tent in the morning and watching the elephants graze in front of camp. You don’t have to wander far here to see incredible wildlife – who also seem to think the camp is their backyard!
The chaps at Kuro have special permission to walk in Tarangire and it’s an experience not to be missed for those looking for a deep connection to the wild.
Check with us first, but the night drives sometimes attract an extra charge.
The main area is airy and open-sided and woven from sisal and thatch to create a beautiful, sun-slatted living space. There’s an eclectic mix of furniture including cow skin chairs, leather poufs and sheepskin cushions, and it feels cosy and chic all at the same time. Views of the wilderness are uninterrupted and elephants can often be found ambling around the grass at the front. Dining takes place at round tables illuminated by candle light. Outside the campfire awaits, with stars in the sky and a cold beverage.
There are only six tents spread out in the bush, each positioned to provide intimacy and seclusion. The super-spacious suites come with just the right amount of creature comforts, a large comfortable bed, solar lighting, a writing desk and an ensuite bathroom complete with eco-flush toilet and bucket shower. On the veranda, you’ll find a couple of view-gazing chairs too. There’s also a family unit, complete with two ensuite bedrooms and a mini lounge area (the camp takes children aged 8 and above).

At Kuro Tarangire Camp there is a good combination of land based activity. Here time is evenly divided between game drive and walking safari, offering the best of both worlds. You will have the high intensity experience on a walking safari with the amount seen on a driven safari, both are worthwhile experiences. Night drive provides a different encounter with the wilds, showcasing species not visible during the day and the cats at their most active.
Kuro Tarangire Camp is owned by Nomad Tanzania, their mission is to unlock life-enhancing opportunities wherever they're needed. Through their camps, they foster dynamic careers, support local suppliers, provide medical outreach, and fund free school meals. Their commitment to lifelong learning, health, and conservation permeates every aspect of their business, creating a positive cycle of empowerment and opportunity that uplifts communities and protects the environment.

Animals are plentiful in the Tarangire National Park, a landscape of famous upside down trees (baobabs), acacia woodlands, riverine forest and swamps. If you want to see elephants, this is the best place to go. Large herds roam the plains, among zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, tree climbing lions and the occasional leopard. A real treat is the birding, with more than 500 species recorded across the park. This is a true wildlife wonderland.
