Property details

The property

Built around massive granite boulders, the main lodge feels like a grand ship with its billowing canvas roof and timber supports. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Tarangire valley whilst the open-plan lounge flows seamlessly between indoor and outdoor dining areas. The infinity pool appears to float above the plains, and the spa sits dramatically on rocky outcrops. Neutral tones and contemporary African art create refined spaces, whilst the bar's sundowner deck becomes the evening's social hub. Above all, everything's designed to show off those jaw-dropping valley views.

The rooms

15 top-tier tented suites scatter along both sides of the ridge – half face sunrise, half sunset. Despite canvas walls, these feel wonderfully solid with vaulted ceilings and contemporary Scandinavian-inspired design. Each suite boasts a private deck with that famous outdoor bathtub, plus indoor shower options for the squeamish. Neutral palettes blend with traditional African textiles, whilst mosquito-netted four-poster beds dominate the space. The real magic happens outside – wake to elephants wandering below or stargaze from your deck whilst soaking in the tub.

Activities

Game drives in custom 4x4 vehicles reveal Tarangire's famous elephant herds, tree-climbing lions, and 550 bird species amongst ancient baobab groves. Walking safaris with park rangers offer intimate wildlife encounters and an appreciation for the smaller things, whilst night drives reveal nocturnal goings-on. The Lemala Cubs programme entertains younger guests with spear-throwing and animal tracking. Between activities, the infinity pool beckons and spa treatments soothe safari-weary muscles. Also, day trips to Lake Manyara for a canoe safari add variety to longer stays.

Insiders Tip

Book the night game drives without hesitation. Tarangire completely transforms after dark, and you're likely to encounter lions, leopards, and that python-in-a-tree moment you'll be talking about for years.
