Located in the northern sector of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park, this remote camp has delivered some of the best game-viewing in the region for a decade. Interiors-wise, it’s stylish and sophisticated in that low-key way that Zambia is famous for, but it’s the location that really steals the show. From the main area, you’ll have views over the oxbow lagoon (a magnet for thirsty wildlife) and the vast plains beyond that are more often than not dotted with elephant, buffalo and a host of antelope. But it’s not called Lion Camp for nothing and the sightings of big cats up here are almost unrivalled. We like the sound of that!

The rooms. The views are fabulous, the interiors are suitably chic yet relaxed and two of them even have an outdoor bathtub.
If you hear the names Brad and George being bandied around, don’t be surprised – it’s more than likely the charismatic local lions affectionately known as the Hollywood pride! And there’s a very high chance you’ll bump into them at least once or twice...
The camp is quite a distance from the airport so if you’re arriving in the evening, be prepared for a lengthy drive in the dark - but you might see a leopard so it’s not all bad!
The main area is both modern and cosy and features plenty of Scandi-chic pale wood, high thatch ceilings and trendy polished concrete. At the very heart of the camp is a fabulous fire pit – the perfect spot for morning coffees and evening G&Ts – but other highlights include the splashy swimming pool overlooking the lagoon and the full-size snooker table (really!). Meals are served in the shade of the ancient mahogany and sausage trees on the front deck and if you fancy some R&R, or indeed some retail therapy, the library area and shop will take care of both.
Stilted wooden walkways lead to the 10 rooms, all generously spaced and with a lovely treehouse atmosphere - thanks to the waving branches and flickering leaves that surround them. Thatch-roofed, with canvas walls, the rooms will have air-conditioning and a water-filtration system for better shower pressure. Outside, a spacious shaded deck will have seating for contemplation. Two larger chalets, one family-sized, have outdoor bathtubs for an exciting wilderness wash.
Guides will take you out on twice-daily wilderness adventures. On morning game drives, you're able to cover greater distances and follow bigger wildlife such as elephant and giraffe, buffalo and lion. Night drives reveal sightings of rarer nocturnal creatures such as aardvark, aardwolf, hyena and honey badgers.Take a guided walk to get closer to the game (although the distance is judged wisely), and open your senses to the vegetation and the sights and sounds of the bush's smaller creatures.
Show all wildlife
South Luangwa National Park has the deserved reputation as one of Africa's best game viewing destinations. A diverse mix of habitats and oxbow lagoons attract a variety of wildlife species. Encounter vast herds of elephant, buffalo, hippo, zebra and an assortment of antelope. However, it is the predators of South Luangwa that produce the most excitement with lion and leopard in abundance and wild dog present in the area.
