There’s something about Kenya. The rich heritage, perhaps? Or the promise of wildlife, always just around the corner? Or maybe it’s the people, whose unwavering smiles welcome you to this beautiful country? Whatever it is, Loldia House has it all in spades and even a little bit more. A traditional homestead perched on the Western shores of Lake Naivasha, the house was built in the 1930s and perfectly captures the charm and character of early Kenya. Days are spent spotting wildlife grazing around the lakeshore, and evenings cosied up by the fire in the drawing room. Kenya in a perfect nutshell.
From $440 person/night
The picturesque location on the shores of Lake Naivasha and the chance to sit back, unwind and have a little time to yourself in a busy safari itinerary.
There are four slightly more modern cottages in the gardens which we love, if not just for their super-spacious bathrooms!
With its classic design and homely furnishings, Loldia isn’t the place if you’re looking for high-spec design and modern style.
Surrounded by clipped lawns, fragrant fever trees and not forgetting 6,000 acres of private land, Loldia is a true dream. Around the house, a cool, wraparound Veranda delivers views all the way to the lake whilst inside, the cosy sitting room with its enormous sofas and roaring fire is the perfect place for a good book and a cup of tea. At night, dinner is a true feast and served atop the grand dining table complete with crystal glasses and silver cutlery. How lovely!
Overflowing with fresh flowers and adorned with family portraits, the nine rooms at Loldia are homely and full of character. The four doubles in the main house are cosy in the winter and cool in the summer and all have pretty views of the colourful gardens. For a little more privacy, the two-bedroom Lake Cottage is honeymoon heaven whereas the three bedroom Hill Cottage is ideal for families or small groups.

The pace of life at Loldia is totally up to you. There’s certainly plenty to keep you busy with game drives on the ranch or to Hells Gate and Crater Lake National Parks, horse riding, day trips to Lake Nakuru, boat rides or a spot of fishing on Lake Naivasha and even nature walks (to make up for all the homemade cakes…) But that’s not to say that you can’t just sit down and take it easy – there’s a nice shady spot on the lawn, just under that tree over there…
Loldia House is owned by Governors' Camps, which collaborates with local communities and conservation organizations to protect wildlife. For over 50 years, they have supported conservation-focused research and empowered communities. Proud of their achievements, they look forward to future opportunities in community and wildlife conservation, inviting guests and partners to join their efforts.

Species such as hippo, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, warthog, eland and a small population of cheetah, lion and leopard are just a few of the animals you might encounter while exploring the undulating grasslands around Lake Niavasha. Somewhat off the beaten track, experience wildlife present in the region and in the nearby Hell's Gate National Park.
