Set beneath a magnificent cluster of ancient fig trees, the main lodge overlooks the river, with open sides to catch the breeze, and a comfortable lounge, bar and dining room beneath a high thatched roof. The camp is unfenced, so be prepared for close encounters with wildlife, especially elephants who love to make morsels of the fallen figs! The swimming pool is a short distance from the main area, in a fantastic spot on the riverbank.
Eight Meru-style tents are well positioned in groups of four on either side of the main lodge beneath a canopy of fig trees, on raised platforms overlooking the river. Interiors are spacious and very comfortable, with huge king or twin beds beneath mosquito nets, beautiful rugs underfoot, and ceiling fans to take the edge off the searing summer heat. Bathrooms are en-suite, with a shower and deep Victorian bathtub. Each tent has a private viewing deck out front.
This region is a sanctuary for an incredible diversity of wildlife, and twice-daily game drives can be quite lengthy in search of lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, with the exciting possibility of encountering the rare African wild dogs. There’s also the option of exploring on foot – a great opportunity to learn about the reserve’s fascinating geological history and to enjoy the spectacular birdlife, with huge numbers of raptors, Pel’s Fishing Owl, and rarities like the Angola Pitta to be seen.
A secluded reserve that offers one the most magical wilderness experiences of the 21st century.
