The imposing main lodge is beautifully constructed out of thatch, stone and natural timber. An elegant reception leads into the huge, domed lounge which has several secluded seating areas and four open fireplaces. The lounge flows through into the restaurant, where meals are served on the gorgeous sun-soaked deck, accompanied by serene views of the Maluti Mountains. There is also a small spa, curio shop with a delightful range of local arts and crafts, and a special activity centre for children.
The stone and thatch chalets have simple luxury down to a T and all come complete with lovely open fireplaces, underfloor heating, and romantic four-poster beds. The vast ensuite bathrooms have tubs big enough for two and thoughtful extra touches like heated towel rails to keep the winter chill at bay. Each also has a private deck with fabulous mountain views. For a slightly more economical option, try Maliba River Lodge just down the road with its double-storey self-catering chalets and simple riverside rondavels.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the choice of activities on offer, which includes hiking along a series of well-marked mountain trails (maps are available), rock climbing, bird watching, and swimming in the natural springs in summer. Horse riding can be arranged, and visits to the Basotho villages give a fascinating glimpse into Lesotho’s rich culture. During the snowy winter season, skiing and snowboarding is a highlight. Back at the lodge, there’s a small wellness spa and a special program of exciting activities for children.
Visit the Kingdom in the Sky for amazing alpine scenery and a charming culture not many know about.
