About Mbamba

Meaning 'hello' in Botswana's Bukakhwe San dialect, Mbamba is a welcome addition to the landscape of the northern Okavango Delta. Cloistered among the trees in the private NG12 concession, Mbamba is brought to you by the renowned Uncharted Africa and Natural Selection team and promises a good helping of epic safari experiences - the area is becoming well-known for its predator sightings. Sitting under metres of billowing canvas, the interiors are a visual treat of plush fabrics and Persian rugs, harnessing the magic of safaris of times past. As far as the eye can see, there are tawny grasslands interwoven with shimmering channels and ilala palm islands, making for the dreamiest of settings.

What you'll love

This region of the Okavango Delta is hugely undeveloped, making your safari experience exclusive and authentic.

Insiders tip

You can make the journey by helicopter to the sacred Tsodilo Hills to marvel at the incredible rock art – there are over 4,500 paintings.

Something to think about

Water-based activities are subject to water levels and may be limited between October and January.

The property

Surrounded by lush greenery, the main area is split into two lounges, which are filled with cushy and colourful furnishings and lofty glass cabinets displaying treasures collected over the years. You'll also find a small library for reading up about the area's history. Meals are served family-style at a long wooden table, where guests swap stories from their travels, or you can choose to dine under the stars. There's also a casual firepit for evening drinks; grab one from the well-stocked bar cabinet when the mood takes you. There is also a swimming pool for hot, steamy days.

The rooms

Set on raised wooden platforms, there are 12 air-conditioned canvas tents; four double, six twin and two family. Shaded by large leadwood trees, each has a romantic four-poster bed draped in netting and interiors splashed with velvety textiles. The tents all have a spacious en-suite bathroom with an indoor shower, as well as a private patio to take in sightings of passing wildlife. A complimentary laundry service is also offered and the camp is entirely solar-powered.

Mbamba offers both land and water-based activities including day and night drives (high-voltage red filter spotlights reveal the nocturnal goings-on), as well as seasonal mokoro and boat rides. As you go, keep your eyes peeled for plentiful buffalo and elephant, crocodile and hippo, and the shy sitatunga and roan antelope. This is also a top denning area for African wild dog. The Greater Okavango is also home to over 400 species of birds including carmine bee eaters, endangered wattled cranes and the rare Pel's fishing owl.
