Property details

The property

The grand entrance to The Medina has an Arabic and Mediterranean feel, with large arabesque arches, white distressed wooden finishings, and bright decorative accents. A leafy, tree lined courtyard forms the center of the Medina; in keeping with traditional style, white linen-covered tables face out over a series of four expansive swimming pools and water channels that stretch towards the beach. With a coffee garden, restaurant, bar and rooftop terrace, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking.

The rooms

A diverse range of accommodation options cascades from the main hotel all the way down to the ocean. There are 1 and 2 bedroom self-catering apartments done in Swahili-style with crisp, white finishes and fitted with a kitchenette, dining room and a light lounge area opening out to the pools. But for those looking for the ultimate in luxury, penthouses sit high in the treetops with inner courtyards, outdoor plunge pools and lounge terraces. The closer to the ocean, the better the views.

Activities

Watamu is a fantastic location for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. The Medina's on-site watersports shop, Tribe, offers plenty of watersports options including kite surfing, snorkelling, SUP paddle boarding, diving courses, fishing and whale and dolphin watching trips. There is also a fitness studio and a spa onsite. If you are looking for an added layer of adventure, trips can be arranged to the nearby Gede Ruins, Watamu Turtle Sanctuary and the Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve.
