To reach it, you'll zoom up Colombia's Pacific Coast in a speedboat and find yourself in a world that few humans ever enter. The lodge has a limit of 10 guests at a time and, as a family-run spot, your visit will be wonderfully personalised. Each day will take form as you choose, whether you that's lolling in a hammock for hours, trekking through the bird-filled Utria National Park, or snorkelling with every manner of creature in the indigo water.
From $360 person/night
Being completely cut-off from everyday life, surrounded by untouched natural beauty.
If you'd like to learn from the indigenous peoples of the region, make the hour's boat journey to Coqui where you'll get an insider's look at their fishing techniques, music, medicinal plants and crafting methods.
This region has some of the highest rainfall levels in the world so it's best to avoid the wet season of October to early December.
Set amongst gardens filled with fruit trees, the structures at Morromico Lodge were built almost entirely from the sustainable choiba tree. Every space is as open-air as possible, including the communal dining area and subtly-decorated lounges where hammocks hang from the ceiling. At Morromico, every meal is an ode to the region's flavoursome gastronomy and there's always an abundance of fresh fish, coconut rice and a myriad of fruit and vegetables picked straight from the garden.
Stilted structures sprinkled throughout the gardens, there are just three rooms, each equipped with double beds, swinging hammocks, and en-suite bathrooms. With no wifi or TV, you'll be well and truly off-the-grid but in a place like this, you wouldn't want it any other way. There's also a private cabana set slightly away from the main house, which is a favourite option among guests. The rooms all have an open-air concept with retractable windows and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.
Backed by the beautiful Utria National Park and fronted by the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean, there is an endless list of activities to enjoy. Enjoy a spot of snorkelling or diving with bottle-nosed dolphins, manta rays, leatherback turtles and whale sharks, or take to the water by kayak, SUP or surf board. On land, explore the forest via an elevated bridge where toucans and hummingbirds fill the air with their calls, or embark on one of the many walking trails.
