Ole Sereni is a good place to stay if you've just arrived in Kenya, or are heading home after your safari. Conveniently close to both the domestic and international airports, the hotel overlooks Nairobi National Park and a waterhole, so you're quite likely to see giraffe, zebra, antelope and buffalo from your room or the guest areas. It's certainly an unusual setting – close to both wildlife and the bustling Nairobi's city attractions. Recharge your batteries in clean and comfortable accommodation, get your laundry washed, enjoy the good restaurants and bar, or have a treatment at the spa.
From $90 person/night
The close proximity to both the international and domestic airport makes this an excellent and super-easy layover for your first night in Kenya.
If you arrive before sunset, head straight to the terrace for your first taste of safari - a sundowner overlooking the wildlife of the park!
The hotel itself is very reasonably priced but beware of the dinner menu - extensive but rather pricey too!
You'll find everything you need here. There are four restaurants: the Big Five, set on a veranda overlooking the park, serves grills, Italian, Indian and Oriental cuisine; the Waterhole Snack Bar offers light meals, plus wine and cocktails; Eagle's Steakhouse does what it says and very well; and, at the infinity pool, Ngong Pool Bar serves snacks and drinks beside the infinity pool. Clusters of seating dot the communal area, there's the aforementioned pool and spa, and facilities for weddings and conferences. There's also wi-fi throughout - handy before a safari!
There are 134 tastefully decorated rooms: 28 standard, 60 superior, 14 deluxe, 24 executive and club rooms, six junior suites and two executive suites. The decor is calm and neutral, brightened with touches of African chic, and all the rooms have aircon, twin or double beds, en-suite bathroom, minibar, satellite TV, wi-fi and internet. The service is smiling and courteous.
The principal appeal of this hotel is its comfort, good food, relaxing atmosphere and proximity to the airports, but if you're staying for more than a day, visit the Travel Desk to investigate the tours on offer. Visit Nairobi Park (you can even arrange a meal in the bush), the Elephant Animal Orphanage, Giraffe Center, Out of Africa Karen Blixen's interesting museum and the Kazuri Beads factory. You can also venture further afield to Aberdare, Amboseli and Lake Nakuru parks.
Show all wildlife
A land of stark contrast, where a rolling wilderness meets the rising buildings of a growing city, proving that harmony can be achieved in a modern world. Explore and discover a diverse range of wildlife in the Nairobi National Park; species like zebra, warthog, giraffe, buffalo and lion are in abundance with Black rhino sightings almost a given. There are leopard and cheetah, but these shy creatures can be a little more difficult to spot. This birdlife does not disappoint either with more than 400 species present in the region.
