Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa is one of the most prestigious hotels in Mauritius. This 150-hectare property, bordered by seven kilometres of protected beaches and the largest lagoon on the island, is justifiably famous for its facilities and services, and its world-class setting (beneath the totemic Le Morne mountain). Walk onto the beach from your room or villa, play a couple of rounds at the picturesque 18-hole course, explore or play in the ocean, top up your tan, dine fabulously at the four restaurants, chill at the spa or doze with book. Sheer island-style bliss.
From $410 person/night
For golfers, the 18-hole course could not be in a more beautiful setting.
Exploring and playing in the ocean. The tour in the glass-bottomed boat is extraordinary. Bear in mind that you need to book all outings beforehand.
Another water activity is swimming with dolphins – an experience every bit as magical as it sounds. The dolphin trip includes snorkelling the shallows and lunch on a desert island, where the catch of the day is cooked on a barbecue.
The architecture and furnishings are typical of Mauritius's relaxed island style, with rustic thatch accents throughout the beach-side public areas. The restaurants cater for your mood: Le Brabant is relaxed, La Palma offers both casual lunches and romantic dinners, there's fine ocean-side dining at the Blue Marlin, and La Ravanne is perfect for a gourmet experience. The resort has a gym, swimming pools and numerous sports facilities, and a spa offering saunas, hammams and a full range of treatments.
Accommodation options range from lovely rooms to suites spread along the sands. All are spacious, filled with light and well decorated (those in the forefront of style know-how may feel the decor is a little dated), with fabulous sea views. Each has an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and shower, and a lounge area and terrace with views of the lagoon. Fancy the privacy of your "own" seaside home? Stay in one of 13 luxury villas along a private beach.
From the moment we arrived at this real paradise we were treated like VIPs. One recommendation – don't miss breakfast at The Blue Marlin.

The golf course and ocean are the main attractions here, and the resort has a dedicated leisure and entertainment team to ensure that there is always something interesting happening. A weekly entertainment programme is available in each room for all residents. Watersports include kitesurfing, stand-up paddling, snorkelling, diving, sailing and wakeboarding. Children love the Bob Marlin Kids Club, whose staff enthusiastically engage the youngsters in physical, creative and educational activities. If you wish simply to relax quietly, that's fine too.
Beachcomber Resorts and Hotels helps to develop communities in Mauritius through projects like youth job training and supporting local craftsmen. They also focus on sustainability by managing water, energy, and waste responsibly, and involve both guests and employees in their environmental efforts.
