What started off as a fishing lodge on the Govuro River near Inhassoro, north of Vilanculos, has developed into a lovely luxury accommodation built along a scenic, sandy beach. Rio Azul means "Blue River" and that is apt because looking out from the soft wooden decking you see nothing but an alluring river system that leads out to the ocean, full of adventure. Take in the sunsets facing in a relaxed but still luxurious environment, spending days out on the water honing your angler skills or simply finding a small space to enjoy the quiet of endless open spaces.

The beautiful views over the estuary from the chalets and your private plunge pool make for the perfect beachside lazy days.
With an estuary and beach this is a great spot for surf and fly fishing on a catch and release program.
The main centre structure of the lodge lies under thick thatch, with an expansive wooden deck overlooking the estuary. A stone masoned central bar area with high top chairs invites you in for a cold drink out of the suns rays to socialise with other guests. A small plunge pool dotted with sun loungers adds to the with views amongst the fold back doors and comfortable natural sofas. There is also a small shop onsite to buy basic amenities.
Six twin chalets and two thatch roofed villas fan out along the side of the fortified beach from the main lodge. The chalets are smaller, sweetly romantic with neat, crisp white linen, open windows and fold back bamboo lined light wooden frames, a small deck leads out towards the water. The larger villas have expansive open plan lounge areas, neatly laid out amongst light, natural furnishings and a large deck with a plunge pool, loungers and dining area.
Being so close to the ocean, seafood is a big feature on the restaurant menu. If you are not a fan make sure you notify the staff before hand.

With an impressive estuary, fly, shore based and offshore fishing, as well as snorkelling and fun family activities this is a water babies dream. Staff can assist with big game lure and saltwater fishing and if you are a beginner, hire out basic equipment and try out some fishing lessons. For those that are there to enjoy the beach there is kayaking, bird watching,dhow and a boat trips to a nearby islands that can be arranged.
