Serian's Serengeti Mobile Kusini makes the most of one of Africa's most dramatic spectacles - the Great Wildebeest Migration. This highly specialised camp is only open from 15 December to 1 May. Tucked into an acacia wood in the Kusini region of the southern Serengeti, where wildebeest are known to give birth to their young, this intimate six-tent camp displays the kind of simple elegance of old-time safaris. But the camp's personal touch is largely thanks to its charismatic owner and host - one of the regions most well-respected guides, Alex Walker.

Southern Plains & Ndutu, Serengeti, Tanzania
The simple pleasure of a small camp where you're hosted by a team of people who get to know you, and where the stories told around the campfire are as important as the experiences you have on a game drive.
First-rate guides, with exceptional knowledge and all the time in the world to share it with you.
Set off on a full-day outing with a picnic in tow. You're free to follow to the wildebeest, wherever they happen to be.
Set within a shady wooded area, the whole camp is centred around the lounge and dining tent, and fire pit and seating area. Simple but adequate, the main tent is furnished with comfortable chairs, colourful throw pillows and Moroccan rugs. Meals are served at wooden tables in the dining area, elegantly lain with white tablecloths, and scattered with lanterns by night. The fire pit opens out to the savanna; come here to re-tell and re-live the day's events over a nightcap or two.
The six double tents at Kusini are strung along the woodland. Structures are canvas and mesh with fold-away flaps and a small shady patio to make the most of the views across the plains. Even though the entire camp is movable, the tents are smartly furnished with Moroccan rugs, local baskets and embroidered pillows. Each also has a wrought-iron double bed or two twin beds, writing desk, tea and coffee station and hanging closet. The ensuite bathrooms have flush toilets, a solid wooden basin and a bucket shower.
Remarkably, each set of guests is given their own private vehicle and guide for the length of their stay at Kusini, making for an extremely flexible safari with game viewing as and when you want it.

You'll have exclusive use of a vehicle along with your very own guide - an extraordinary offering that allows for ultimate flexibility. The camp itself is positioned on the edge of a plain where wildebeest congregate to give birth, and the sightings of the Great Migration are truly fantastic. Besides wildebeest and zebra, the region is especially good for viewing cheetah and lion, and you'll also encounter hyena, jackal and honey badger, as well as an impressive array of birds. Drives are the best way to view most of the wildlife but don't pass on a guided walk - a thrilling way to approach wildlife on foot.
Serian's Serengeti Mobile Kusini is owned by Alex Walker's Serian, and founded on a profound respect for Kenya and Tanzania's wildernesses and cultures. Central to their ethos is preserving these areas by managing human interaction with wildlife. As populations grow and resources strain, Serian emphasizes making conservation profitable for locals. Note: a conservancy fee applies but is not included in the nightly rate.

The Serengeti National Park is an ecologically rich environment and home to vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, Thomson's gazelle and buffalo grazing on the sweet grasses of the savannah. Even after the Great Migration has moved through, the game viewing is exceptional in this region. The predators are never far off, with cheetah and lion in abundance and leopard readily seen in the Seronera region of the Central Serengeti. Enjoy expansive grasslands, acacia thickets, meru kopjes (granitic hills) and riverine forests.
