Located within one of the world's 'Blue Zones', where lives are among the longest and happiest, Silvestre provides all the elements of a perfect wellness retreat at the seaside. Surrounded by the sounds of breeze-ruffled leaves and gentle waves, the hotel has nine residences mere steps away from some of the best surf breaks in the world. Every building choice was made to keep the hotel's environmental footprint at a minimum including the placement of the buildings, which was carefully done to save as many trees as possible. There's also plenty of opportunity for adventure whether it's exploring the skies by gyrocopter or riding horseback along the beach at sunset.
From $520 person/night
The surf is utterly sublime at Silvestre, whether you plan on hanging ten or just splashing around in the water.
The hotel hosts world-class wellness programs so be on the lookout for one that takes your fancy.
The roads in the area are quite underdeveloped but it's all part of the experience.
The hotel places a huge focus on sustainability, maintained through water conservation, energy efficiency and the use of local products wherever possible. With stunning ocean views, there's a rooftop deck and infinity pool surrounded by large shaded loungers. You'll also find a bar adorned with greenery of the real and fabricated kind, mirroring the forested landscape to the left and right. There's also a lounge furnished with creamy couches and a small dining area where delicious, garden-fresh meals are served.
Nestled on the edges of the lush jungle, the residences blend the luxury of a hotel with the privacy and freedom of a home. Each residence has two rooms with king (or bunk, in the case of the family accommodation) beds. They are decorated in soft pastels with pretty pottery dotted around, and light streams in through floor-to-ceiling windows. The largest has its own kitchen, barrel sauna, ice bath and private garden. The bathrooms are beautifully done with wooden panels and a rainfall shower, of course.
What can't you do? Every guest has use of their own professional-grade surfboard to make the most of Nosara's excellent breaks. When you're not in the water, go ziplining in the forest (the course is 11 kilometres long!), soar over the shoreline in a gyrocopter, explore the trees by ATV, and stop at a waterfall for a dip. You can also enjoy chartered boat rides to find hidden beaches like Pink Sand Island, which only appears at low tide.
