About The Postcard Velha

A colonial mansion with serious panache in Old Goa.
Sometimes, it feels as though Goa only has resorts of the larger size on offer - but that's where The Postcard Velha comes to the rescue. Set on an estate in Velha Goa (Old Goa in Portuguese) it's a modern, colonial-style property with just eight bedrooms. Surrounded by coconut plantations, a stay here is a calming balm from the hustle and bustle of the streets, and the perfect place to recharge after a day of exploring. You'll feel a world away from the nearby town, but still close enough to get anywhere you'd like to be...

Property details

The property

Tucked away behind a curtain of green, The Postcard Velha is a stylish re-imagining of an old, colonial-style mansion. The building is all sweeping verandahs and high airy rooms, and there's a fabulously-cool swimming pool hiding amongst the trees. Dining takes place on a number of platforms scattered around the grounds, and R&R is provided by one of the trained Ayurvedic practitioners who will create a bespoke programme just for you.

The rooms

There are eight rooms to choose from at this sweet little spot, separated into two categories. Banyan Rooms look out to the garden and the 300 year old banyan tree that resides there. All have their own verandah, an ideal spot for your morning cuppa, and high windows and fluttering curtains. The Mandovi Rooms gaze out onto a nearby hill and delta and each comes with its own private balcony. Expect hand carved beds, luxury bathrooms and a heavenly night's sleep.

Activities

A stay at The Postcard Velha opens you up to all manner of delightful activities. The location, on the outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Old Town, gives you the perfect place to base yourself if you want to wander the streets, soaking up the history - take a guide, and definitely visit the market. Further afield, sail through the mangrove forests of Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in search of kingfishers, black bittern, jack snipes and many other birds.
