Surrounded by tropical gardens and towering palms, Talinjoo Hotel has idyllic ocean views, which you can take in from just about every corner. At its forefront, the infinity pool and shaded daybeds are where you'll want to linger - or head to the spa for a pampering massage. The restaurant has a varied menu which changes with the seasons but often favours seafood (quite rightly). During the day, pick out a book from the library or grab a cocktail from the Joo Bar to while the afternoon away.
Down corridors lined with black-and-white portraits, the hotel has 15 rooms, each with an earthy, understated style, expansive glass walls, and a private balcony overlooking the ocean. The rooms are all equipped with a four-poster bed, small but comfortable sitting area, and polished wooden furnishings. The bathrooms are beautifully done with a huge shower that has a sea view of its own. Other amenities include air-con, wi-fi, minibars and TVs.
Fort Dauphin is perfectly positioned between the sea, forests and mountains of Madagascar allowing for endless opportunities to explore on hikes and drives. A pathway from the hotel leads straight down from the pool to a small beach, where you can frolic in the waves or enjoy meandering walks further down the coast to watch surfers in action. Then again, you might prefer to grab a book from Talinjoo's travel library and park yourself in one of its shaded lounges for a few hours...
Tales of pirates abound in this languid port town that makes a handy stopover destination for the south.
