About Victoria Falls River Lodge Island Treehouses

Just a few kilometres upstream from the drama of "The Smoke that Thunders" lies the Victoria Falls River Lodge's Island Treehouse Suites, set all alone on a lush island called Kandahar. With its doors opening at the end of 2017, the lodge is the latest in the Zambezi Crescent Collection, which has an impressive track record in the area. The Island Lodge appears to have reached a new level of exclusivity, with accommodation for just 10 guests. This is the perfect place to chill out in style after enjoying the many exciting adventures on offer in the Vic Falls area.

Highlights

The scenery is breathtaking. Add to that the wildlife, with elephant, buffalo, zebra and waterbuck competing with the surround sound of honking hippos in the water, and you've got an awe-inspiring all-round experience.

From its glamorous treehouse accommodation to its location on a beautiful tropical island surrounded by one of the continent's biggest rivers, the lodge is hard to beat!

Victoria Falls is far more than just a large cascade – it's a real whopper, one of the wonders of the world. For the best "Angel's View", take a helicopter flip.

The property

Since Kandahar is accessible only by boat, you'll arrive at the jetty and climb a few steps to reach the main area. The vibe here is uncluttered and minimalist, with the lodge's buildings raised on wooden decks connected by boardwalks that meander through the woodland. A few seating areas surround the airy, open-sided dining room. To one side is a lovely pool and the bar, from which you're bound be to captivated by the coral/orange sunset views across the Zambezi.

The rooms

Six smart treehouse suites are raised well above the ground. All are built almost entirely of wood and glass, with sliding and folding doors opening on to a spacious front deck, complete with sunloungers and a plunge pool. King-sized beds are draped with mosquito nets, and woollen rugs lie scattered across the wooden floors. En-suite bathrooms have a deep tub (also with a great view) and a blissful high-pressure shower. The quality, comfort and unique views are a real treat.

One more thing...

Far from the crowds but close to the action, the lodge operates like a well-oiled machine, with a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.

The Vic Falls area is activity central. Head to the well-loved "The Smoke that Thunders" (a poncho or raincoat will keep you dry). Though it's expensive, a helicopter or microlight flip affords you a spectacular view of the falls and the Zambezi River and its canyon, and you may even spot some wildlife. For more concerted game viewing, head to either Zambezi or Victoria Falls national parks; adrenalin junkies can try bungee-jumping, white-water rafting and numerous other exciting activities.
