About Wayo Lake Manyara Fly Camp

Camping under crystal-clear skies and spotting amazing wildlife at Lake Manyara.
Between a tapestry of floodplains, top-heavy acacia trees and bubbling hot springs, your exclusive fly camp is immersed in nature. On arrival, your personal crew will set up the small but comfortable camp, before you set out to use every ounce of daylight exploring your private corner of Lake Manyara National Park. The camp takes care of its temporary home with plenty of eco credentials like solar-powered lights and going plastic-free wherever possible. With the shimmering lake at its centre, Manyara is a trove of wildlife, where zebra and wildebeest come to drink at the water's edge.

Property details

The property

Set up in a secluded part of Lake Manyara, the camp has six tents and a shared tented area. Inside the central tent, you'll find a bar cabinet and lounge area with cushioned benches and bean bags. Enjoy three-course meals under the stars, or in the cosy mess tent if the weather plays up. By the fire, sip on sundowners or steaming hot drinks as you exchange memories from the day.

The rooms

Split into two groups, the six domed canvas tents come with thick, foam double or twin beds covered in crisp linens and green blankets. Your private bathroom is found just outside the tent, and has a compost toilet and hot bush-bucket shower (very welcome after a day of exploring). Simple but functional, your tent also includes woven laundry baskets, rustic side tables and safari-style lamps.

Activities

Set out on daily excursions into the wilderness and as you walk across the plains, look out for the stamping herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest who often stop for a drink at the lake. The unmissable trumpet of elephant and lofty silhouette of giraffe complete the picture, along with 400-strong species of birds in every shade. On canoe safaris, watch as snorting hippos wallow in the water and the iconic collection of flamingos sway above the glistening surface.

What you'll love

The flamingos steal the show and it's a surreal moment when you see them mirrored in the lake for the first time.
