As a group with your fellow shipmates, you will be transferred from the hotel to the ship.
There's no better way to explore the stark beauty of Antarctica than on a classic expedition ship. The Ocean Adventurer has long been a fleet favourite among guests and crew who’ve appreciated the charm and intimacy of this 128-passenger vessel, its ample outdoor deck space, numerous cozy spots to socialise onboard—and the outdoor jacuzzi.
As part of your polar expedition experience, you can hike the desolate tundras, take a chilly polar plunge or admire the icy landscape from afar with a helicopter flightseeing excursion. Other activities can be added to enhance your sense of adventure, including sea kayaking, camping, paddling, alpine heli-trekking.
Estimated prices are based on an 11 or 12 day excursion travelling around Antarctica and will vary depending on the time of year and the specific excursion.
This expedition ship offers you endless warmth and charm to welcome you home after long days hiking through glaciers and paddling through icy waters. With a cozy lounge and a library - stocked with everything from light reading and board games to journals about marine biology, wildlife, and history - you will seamlessly ease into life at sea.
And don't miss the outdoor jacuzzi! The perfect place to wind down in the evening and share stories of all your Antarctic adventures.
Lower Deck Twin. Your cabin will have twin beds with soft linens and a private bathroom. A porthole window frames the picturesque view outside the ship. (Although, please note that in inclement weather, the captain or crew may shutter these portholes for safety)You can also opt to upgrade to a main twin porthole or main twin window cabin, which are located on the main deck, closer to the gym and with direct access to the Zodiac Boarding rooms.
The largely unexplored frontier of the seventh continent awaits you in this adventurous expedition.
Come equipped with warm clothes, a good camera, and a spirit of adventure!
Each day will offer different opportunities to appreciate the breathtaking landscapes of the region and spot unique wildlife.
On this penguin safari, expect to encounter not only several species of the charismatic aquatic bird, but also many other sea birds, seals, and whales.
Activities included with your expedition while aboard ship include hiking, zodiac cruises, and a polar plunge. You can elevate your experience by adding additional activities like sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.
All activities will be dependent on weather conditions during your expedition, but you can be sure that your crew will be near at hand to guide you on the adventure of a lifetime.
Your Antarctic voyage begins as you embark the Ocean Adventurer in the late afternoon. The vessel will make its way through the historic Beagle Channel. Take a moment to adjust to life at sea, familiarising yourself with your cabin, and getting to know your way around the deck.
As you head toward South Georgia, you have a few days to make the most of the entertainment, educational programming, and activities available to you aboard the Ocean Adventurer.
As well as briefing you on safety procedures and protocols for shore landings, your Expedition Team will share their wealth of knowledge about the region. Listen closely to their tips for spotting whales and identifying birds.
As a optional extra, you can also choose to try sea kayaking for a truly unique way to get close to the water and feel immersed in the tranquility of the unpopulated Antarctic region.
Make sure to visit the deck and keep an eye out for wildlife passing the ship. Look down and you might spot seals or whales in the water. Look up and you're sure to see a flock of sea birds flying by.
And you won't want to miss the first sighting of land as you come upon South Georgia. The iconic Shag Rocks stand like sentinels in the unforgiving sea to welcome you to the next stage of your journey.
After days at sea, you will now have the opportunity to come to shore and explore the beaches of South Georgia, which offer some of the most fertile breeding grounds for sub-Antarctic wildlife.
With an abundance of bird life and seal species, you will be easily outnumbered as humans are surely in the minority on these Antarctic shores. Here, you will have innumerable photographic opportunities to get up close with seals and penguins without disturbing them in their natural habitat.
While ashore, you can also explore historical sites that recall the whaling days gone by. South Georgia was once a popular spot for whalers and the relics of those times - including shipwrecks and whale bones - can still be spotted, littered around the island. Explore the relics of whaling stations in Grytviken, the settlement on the lonely island. This is also where Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the most famous explorers of his day, is laid to rest.
Return to life on deck and continue with an exciting itinerary of presentations and lectures from your Expedition Team. The content of this programming will give you a deeper appreciation for the wildlife and landscapes you will encounter in the next stage of your voyage.
Each day in the Antarctic will invite new adventures, aboard ship, at sea, and on land.
Zodiac cruises will give you ample opportunities to be in the open ocean and explore the channels between imposing glaciers. Keep an eye on the water as there may be whales and seals swimming nearby.
While on land, be astounded by more penguin colonies waddling all about and wander through snowy hills for panoramic views.
You have the option here to add a paddling excursion to your itinerary, an unforgettable experience!
By now, nearing the end of your voyage, your sea legs will be strong, ready for the rough seas of the Drake Passage.
The waters here are notoriously lively, with incredible depth and swift currents that add to the thrill of the crossing. Many great explorers traversed these waters in their early discoveries of remote regions of the world. Now, you have the opportunity to follow in their wake, aboard ships that are well equipped to navigate through these famous swells.
The last days of your expedition will give you further opportunities to be on the lookout for wildlife while you reminisce over your adventures in Antarctica. Swap stories, share photographs, and celebrate your voyage with your fellow shipmates.
On the final day of your journey, you will be returned to Ushuaia. With solid land beneath your feet and the sense of adventure still beating in your heart, continue to the airport for your journey home (or the onward journey to your next adventure!)
Your Antarctic expedition ends after disembarkation. We will meet you on the shore and arrange a transfer to take you back to the airport.
