With your own personal guide and 4WD vehicle available throughout your stay, visits to the Safari Cottages are as perfectly suited for those with more specialist interests, such as keen photographers or birdwatchers, as they are for those keen to tick off the Big Five.

Activities available on a fully inclusive package include game drives with a private vehicle and guide, a bush breakfast and/or lunch, an Equator line bush breakfast and/or sundowner spotlight night drives, bush walks, specialist birding walks with Andy.

The private farms and reserves of Laikipia offer a blockbuster of activities, each as unique as they are, and here more than anywhere, your experience will be determined by where you stay. Laikipa is renowned for its fantastic wildlife viewing – rhino, big cats, elephant, buffalo and wild dog are all present in sizeable numbers – but it’s up to you how you choose to find them…

Across the board, morning, afternoon and (usually) night game drives are on offer. We recommend using the drives as your base and adding on extras as you fancy. These can include walking safaris (around 3-4 hours) and hardier foot and fly-camping expeditions that involve walking through the bush by day and sleeping in a simple camp under the stars by night. Horse riding safaris are very common, and it’s not unusual to be offered a safari by camel! Also on the agenda are cycling and mountain biking trips, fixed-wing flights for game viewing by air, and a chance to spend time with the iconic Maasai and Samburu warriors who are very often landowners in the conservancies.

At Ilkeliani you can fill your days with activities or enjoy the camp at leisure. The game-filled plains of the Maasai Mara offer all manner of activities, and guests can do as much or as little as they choose. Drive out of camp at dawn to watch the animals waking to the start of a new day and return to camp for breakfast, or spend a full day in the reserve, stopping for lunch at a picturesque viewpoint. Stroll along the riverbanks observing the prolific birdlife, and talk to the Maasai about their medicinal uses of the indigenous plants.
