Central Jaipur, with its pink facades and endless historic buildings, is at your fingertips. On the edge of the old walled city, 47 Jobner Bagh is set in a lush garden that was once owned by the Maharajah of Jobner. Now, it's a welcoming and well-tended boutique hotel with a lovely view of the Aravali Hills. Everything at 47 Jobner Bagh is a family affair - from the home-cooked Indian suppers whipped up by the owner's wife to the colourful textiles shop run by his daughter. On a rare quiet street, the three-storey terraced building feels distinctly homely after a day of exploring Jaipur's many forts and bazaars.
From $60 person/night
All the little details...from marigolds scattered in your room to the tea, coffee, nimbupani (lemon water) and snacks served throughout the day.
Assistance is offered in English, Italian, French and Spanish - so don't be shy to ask.
If you love a good soak, there's no pool here to cool off at the end of the day.
Everything has a cosy yet refined feel to it, including the hotel's interiors, which are furnished with well-loved antiques. 47 also has a spa that offers Ayurvedic and aromatherapy massages, making for a relaxing interlude. The hotel's wide rooftop terrace (with bar) definitely steals the show, dotted with sunlit tables and surrounded by leafy canopies. Conversations that begin in the candle-lit dining room or garden almost always finish in front of the fire pit with a drink in hand.
Decked out in warm colours and lovely wooden furnishings, the 12 rooms are authentic and comfortable. Alongside rustic en-suite bathrooms, you'll find a wardrobe, TV, desk and air con. You can also make use of the hotel's laundry and room service, plus a thorough room cleaning twice a day. In a selection of rooms, you'll also find a lovely patio with garden views.
From this central spot, you can already see a few of Jaipur's historic monuments, including Nahargarh Fort, and it's beyond easy to discover the rest! The city is home to an incredible array of palaces, spectacular in colour and design. A tad further afield, you'll discover Galta, a secluded group of temples nestled amongst the cliffs - it also has an amazing monkey population! As a local with a lot of know-how, definitely ask 47's owner, Shiva Gujar, for a few tips.
