&Beyond’s newest gem in Kenya, Suyian Lodge, is the only lodge within its namesake 44,000-acre conservancy. Perched along an escarpment, it offers breathtaking views across the sweeping plains, stretching all the way to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Also in sight is the remarkable Rock Sanctuary, where ancient rock paintings adorn the curving kopjes—the very formations that inspired the lodge’s design. Inside, interiors are a seamless blend of earthy tones and &Beyond’s signature elegance. As part of a crucial wildlife corridor in Laikipia, the conservancy promises extraordinary wildlife encounters, whether on a classic game drive, a camelback safari, or a scenic helicopter flight.
From $1,570 person/night
As the one and only lodge in the conservancy, your safari will be as exclusive as they come. And the wildlife sightings are sensational!
The library doubles as an interpretive centre for guides and specialists to host talks on a variety of different topics – definitely worth a listen.
The lodge has a fun and interactive WILDchild program, and children under 12 can participate in camel safaris as long as they ride with an adult. However, guests must be over 16 to enjoy bush walks and horseback safaris.
Inspired by the curving forms of the surrounding landscapes, Suyian has a sophisticated yet earthy design, with most of its furnishings and decor crafted by local Kenyan artisans. Enormous archways lead to the heart of the lodge, where you'll find plenty of softly-lit lounges, a library and a bar serving signature cocktails. Take your drink to the sunken firepit for stunning views over the plains, or head to the infinity pool for a cooling dip. At mealtimes, expect a celebration of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients served in the courtyard, bush boma, private dining room or at the chef's table.
The lodge has 14 spacious suites, each constructed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding rock formations. The interiors are effortlessly chic: large beds take centre stage and there's also a separate lounge and fireplace, a sweeping bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, a huge bathtub and double vanity. The outdoor terraces offer sensational views of the flowing Ewaso Narok River, which you can enjoy from the private plunge pool or sunken daybed – each suite comes equipped with Swarovski binoculars for your use. There's also a two-bedroom family suite and triple suite available.
At the lodge, enjoy pampering treatments at the wellness centre (there's a steam room and cold plunge pool too), or enjoy in a yoga class on one of the secluded kopjes. When it comes to activities, nothing is off the table. Explore this incredible region on day or night drives, camel, horseback or walking safaris. Keep an eye out for the very rare melanistic leopard, too! You can also spend time with local tribes to gain insight into their lives and even join local herders as they guide over 2,500 cattle. There is also fishing on the river or further afield at the beautiful Lake Turkana, as well as riverside picnics with a cheeky dip if you like.
Show all wildlife
The greatest conservation success of the region remains with the black rhino, almost half of Kenya's entire population can be found in this area. Laikipia is a real up-and-comer on the African safari circuit, with an impressive diversity of unique species, not to mention home to the famous Big 5. Encounter elephants, big cats (often collared for research purposes), buffalo, Grevy's zebra, numerous antelope and more recently, an increasing wild dog population. Laikipia consist of a mix of high altitude grassland, dotted with rocky outcrops, low lying bush and patches of riverine forest.
