Nestled amongst the coconut palms on the main beach in Morondava, Palissandre's view is straight out of a painting with white sails billowing in the bay and endless ocean before it. Whilst here, you'll call a bright, thatched bungalow home and spend many happy hours watching the surf roll in. While relaxation comes very easily, there's plenty of exploring to do as well. Take a cruise into the bay, or make the pilgrimage to the Avenue of the Baobabs, a must for photographers and anyone with an appreciation for nature at its most striking.
From $60 person/night
The peaceful views and shoulder-sinking atmosphere it provides - and all just 30 minutes from the Avenue of the Baobabs.
We wouldn't say no to a massage at the open-air spa, especially after those bumpy Tsingy roads.
Madagascar as a whole is the place to escape from it all, so Wi-Fi is only available in public areas at Palissandre.
Roped wooden pathways lead to the main resort, where an array of fine seafood dishes and indulgent desserts are served up at the poolside Lakana des Saveurs. The deck is a definite favourite spot to dine! Just beside the second pool, enjoy a glass of something chilled at Le Tsingy Bar, or, if you're in need of a pampering, pay a visit to the spa for an alfresco massage on the sand.
There are 30 bungalows scattered between the coconut trees, fitting perfectly into the image of a get-away-from-it-all beach hut. All built from Madagascan materials including granite, rosewood and Mokotry roofing, the interiors are bright red and orange, and there are beautiful paintings of the scenery dotted around. A large netted bed dominates the space, which leads into the bathroom with its stone basin and spacious shower. Each bungalow enjoys a private terrace with a view of the lapping waves.
Most visitors make a beeline for the Avenue of the Baobabs, a remarkable stretch of rust-red road where these giant 'upside down' trees reach up to 30 metres tall. If you've got time, we highly recommend searching for Madagascar's curious wildlife in a nearby reserve, or enjoy meandering walks down the soft, sandy beaches too. For lunch with a difference, cruise across the Bay of Antsatsabo for a picnic with the ultimate view.
