Desert Breeze is an unusual bed and breakfast lodge nestled among the dunes of the Namib Desert, along the banks of the ephemeral Swakop River. This area of Namibia is characterised by spectacular landscapes, endless horizons and the rugged Atlantic coastline, and the nearby town of Swakopmund is a popular tourist hub with easy access to tons of adventure hotspots and wilderness areas. The lodge's quirkily designed bungalows offer very spacious and comfortable accommodation with gorgeous views. Though only a short drive from town, this special spot is far away enough to appreciate the absolute silence and solitude of the desert.
From $110 person/night
Freedom to explore the desert on foot, with the sands of the Namib literally on your doorstep. What could be better?
While it may be tempting to never leave your private deck and those views, the town of Swakopmund is still worth a visit.
The only thing missing from this lovely lodge is a pool - you could definitely do with a dip after adventures into the desert.
The roomy, open-plan lounge and dining area is perfectly positioned for expansive desert views, with huge full-length windows, polished stone and timber floors, and comfortable leather couches. An indoor breakfast room and outdoor terrace make the most of the staggering vistas and sense of space. Huge slabs of rock, chunky wooden pillars, contemporary colours and quirky hand-crafted furniture blend together to create a comfy and peaceful haven in the middle of the stark desert landscape.
The lodge's twelve double or twin bungalows and three-bedroomed villa all boast fabulous desert views, each with big windows and a private balcony. From the outside, curved rooftops and rounded walls mimic the undulating dunes, and vibrantly coloured wall panels contrast the subtle desert tones. Inside, retro art and eccentric finishing touches add a sense of fun to the spacious, comfortably furnished rooms. Each is en-suite, with a homely sitting room, charming wood fire for winter warmth and ceiling fans for the searing summer heat.
Desert Breeze is situated in the dune belt on the edge of Swakopmund, so you can literally step out of your bungalow and take a stroll in the Namib Desert. The town itself is well worth exploring, with wide avenues lined with graceful colonial buildings and a distinct Bavarian feel. Adventure tours of the coast and desert take many forms, from dune boarding, camel safaris and guided nature walks, to boat cruises in search of whales and other marine life.
This was more of a Bed & Breakfast, rather than an all inclusive lodge, but it was still a great experience. The location and view were perfect, right on th edge of the town. The cabin came equipped with a fireplace, and since it was foggy and cool, we took full advantage. Would definitely stay here again!
