About Kilimanjaro Hotel Dar

Ultra-modern luxury on Dar Es Salaam's busy waterfront
Previously called The Kilimanjaro, this once-rundown hotel on Dar Es Salaam's busy waterfront has been comprehensively refurbished and reopened as the Hyatt Regency Kilimanjaro, a rather chic and upmarket place, with a price tag to match. The original hotel's visitors included Nelson Mandela and Michael Jackson. Today, this modern giant of shiny glass proudly overlooking the port has become the go-to stopover for business travellers and those wanting all the creature comforts of a modern hotel.

Property details

The property

Sleek and modern, with marble flooring and a central water feature, the hotel's lobby opens to a shopping arcade where you can exchange currency, hire a car, and start your retail experience. There's a lovely lounge, bar and shady terrace bright with ocean views, restaurants ranging from formal to relaxed, the aforementioned rooftop bar, and an infinity pool overlooking the harbour. Your business needs are catered for, and there's a good spa to enjoy when you've signed the deal.

The rooms

Don't expect quirky style and Swahili-inspired charm. This is, after all, a Hyatt establishment. The 180 rooms across the many floors of the Kilimanjaro Dar are large, modern and comfortably appointed. Decor in the standard rooms in earth-toned, with comfortable large beds, wooden floors, and all mod cons. The suites and Regency Club rooms are more spacious, with Persian rugs and an added lounge area.

Activities

On-site activities include shopping, the spa, the pool, fine dining, a pulsing nightlife and the comings and goings at the harbour. There's not much to do within walking distance of the hotel, but the concierge will help you find local attractions, such as buzzing Oyster Bay, bright markets, the botanic gardens and the open-air Village Museum, where you'll find authentic recreations of tribal houses from different regions of Tanzania. Boat trips can also be arranged.
