Sabi Sands, South & West Sabi Sands, Kruger, South Africa
The Tinga Concession is Big Five territory (even though timing and seasons are important to be aware of, as the area has experienced a few years of drought where sightings are less likely).
Watch wildlife of all shapes and sizes pass by while lounging in the lap of luxury, in your bathtub or plunge pool on your private wooden terrace.
Outdoor dinners around the fire-lit boma make for a wonderfully authentic and romantic safari experience.
Expansive, double volume, thatch roofs are nestled under the leafy canopies of ancient trees; their trunks burst through the large wooden, terraced platforms that overlook the river. Large leather couches, classic cotton fabrics, and modern wildlife-inspired artworks are scattered across the vast living areas, subtly complimenting the natural surrounds. Inside, there is a library with a voluminous fireplace for chilly winter nights, and outside, a cooling infinity pool, just a stone's throw from the banks of the Sabie River.
Tinga's nine suites all have marvellously private locations with unique views overlooking the river. Each one has its own lounge area, plunge pool and viewing deck, providing ample opportunity to appreciate the sights and sounds of the bush. Rooms feature thatch, plenty of natural stone and wood, and romantic sunken baths, with a host of chic, modern furnishings to create the perfect contrast. Air-conditioning and other luxurious details make the experience all the more indulgent. Family rooms are available.
For something a little different, spend a night in the treehouse. You'll be treated to a private dinner on a raised platform out in the bush, before falling asleep with nothing but a mosquito net and a sky of stars above your head.
Twice-daily game drives will give you ample opportunity to spot some of the reserve's magnificent wildlife (including the Big Five.) If you are feeling adventurous (and, well, brave) you can do a guided bush walk (all guides are expertly versed in wildlife, bird watching, astronomy and more), or relax and take in the sights and sounds at a bush breakfast or dinner. If you need to unwind, visit the onsite spa, which offers pampering treatments with quite the view.
