Maramboi is a large, upmarket tented camp set amongst an oasis of palm trees, in a peaceful, private concession south-east of Lake Manyara. Just around the corner from Tarangire National Park, it’s close to all the big game action, with rolling views of open plains that showcase the surrounding wildlife. As an established camp, it operates like a well-oiled machine, ensuring all your needs are met and often exceeded. Despite its heart-of-the-bush location, guests can expect many of the creature comforts associated with slick city hotels, but at a fraction of the price tag.
From $330 person/night
The excellent location between Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park means double the game drives - and hopefully a few more ticks on your wildlife list.
The private concession location means bush walks are easily organised (with a bit of notice) and strolling to Lake Manyara for a sundowner at the water’s edge is blissful.
With 44 tents in total, Maramboi isn't necessarily focused on the personal service associated with smaller camps but if that doesn't bother you, you'll love it.
The centrally positioned main area is built and situated to make the most of the stunning surrounds. Connected by raised wooden paths and built-on raised wooden floors, it boasts views of golden grassed plains that stretch as far as the eye can see. The lounge is inviting and spacious with comfortable sofas and chairs, characterful hardwood furniture and hand-carved ornaments. Dining under swaying palms with a gorgeous view is the order of the day. Of course there’s also the ever entertaining “bush television” - the campfire with its flickering flames and stories of the wild.
The camp consists of 44 large, well appointed, en-suite tents evenly spread out to create a sense of privacy. The decor is beautifully simple with wooden floors, four-poster beds and wrought iron furniture. The tents, conveniently connected to the main areas by either sand or wooden walkways, are raised off the ground to maximise the striking views of the Great Rift Valley plains. On very clear days, it is possible to see Oldonyo Lengai, a mountain revered by the Maasai. The private veranda, complete with directors’ chairs and a coffee table, is the perfect spot to savour this picture with warthogs and zebra wandering by.
At Maramboi, you get the benefit of game drives in both Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park. There are also Maasai guided bush walks which focus on smaller wonders such as animal tracks, insects and anything else you might bump into on your way to the water's edge of Lake Manyara. The lake’s shore is also a great spot for bird watching and sipping on cocktails, celebrate the beautiful sunset. And if it's true adventure you crave, take to the skies on a hot air balloon ride. Don’t feel like venturing far? Take a dip in the lodge’s sparkling pool and soak up the views and the sun under one of the pool-side umbrellas.
The organisation supports various community projects, including the de-snaring project in the Serengeti, medical care solutions like the Olmoti Clinic in Western Kilimanjaro, and educational opportunities like the Emusoi Centre in Arusha. Additionally, initiatives like the Children’s Health Program in Nairobi and contributions to Wildlife Management Areas and Tanzania National Parks underscore their commitment to community well-being and environmental conservation.
Show all wildlife
Animals are plentiful in the Tarangire National Park, a landscape of famous upside down trees (baobabs), acacia woodlands, riverine forest and swamps. If you want to see elephants, this is the best place to go. Large herds roam the plains, among zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, tree climbing lions and the occasional leopard. A real treat is the birding, with more than 500 species recorded across the park. This is a true wildlife wonderland.
