About Offbeat Ndoto

Offbeat are experts at finding the wildest of places and setting up camp, allowing their guests to see Africa's four-legged residents up-close. The latest addition to their stellar collection, Ndoto is tucked away in the Mara North Conservancy where humans are a rarity and it's not odd to see leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and giraffe from your own veranda. Offbeat knows this land is precious and makes its footprint as light as possible; it's tents are entirely solar-powered and sit on platforms built from local river rock. There are just four tents so a personalised, interactive experience is guaranteed.

What you'll love

The Offbeat Pride lives extremely close to camp and, having followed them for generations, the guides know every member of the family and share the lions' unique stories.

Insiders tip

Enjoy a lunch under the ancient sycamore fig trees on Offbeat's secret island as the Olare Orok River babbles past. If you don't want to rush back from a game drive, the camp will happily pack a picnic breakfast or lunch too!

Something to think about

Game viewing is exceptional all year round, but from July to October you will also get to experience the annual wildebeest migration in its hundreds of thousands.

The property

At the heart of camp is the Mess Tent, which enjoys 360° views of the grasslands and frequent wildlife. Curl up with a book in the cosy lounge or grab a drink at the uber-casual bar. There is a communal dining table inside but you'll often dine beside the campfire surrounded by the sounds of the Masai Mara, and later share stories under the stars. The dishes are mostly made with locally-sourced ingredients and for an extra special evening, book a private dinner in the bush.

The rooms

There are just four Meru-style tents set well apart from each other with a view over the plains. Each is simply but beautifully furnished with a super king-sized bed draped in 100% cotton sheets, desk and sitting area, from which you can enjoy a siesta or armchair safari. The en-suite has a rain shower, double basins and wardrobe with soft dressing gowns. Every tent has a private veranda where morning hot drinks are served - it's truly worth waking at sunset for the view.

Activities

Sitting just outside of the Masai Mara, Offbeat Ndoto has access to major river crossing spots if the Great Migration is rumbling through. The camp offers day and night drives within the conservancy, where you could spot the Big Five, the region's iconic predators and plenty more. Head out on foot with your Maasai guide as they share the tiny, often overlooked details of the bush. Visit members of their community at a local village or, if you're feeling extra fit, join them for a run!

The Masai Mara is Kenya's flagship conservation region: a place of rolling plains, bush scrub and acacia thicket— known for the seasonal great wildebeest migration, a mass movement of more than two million, wildebeest, zebra, kongoni, topi and gazelle. As exciting as this phenomenon is, there is so much more to this wilderness. Encounter elephants, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, crocodiles and a variety of cats including lion, cheetah, leopard and the shy serval during a stay in these parts.
