The muted tones of Tintagel soothe your soul the moment you enter from the hoots of the tuk-tuks outside. But don't take muted to mean dull; this property is style and elegance personified and has attracted famous guests from around the globe, including royalty. The building itself is a structure of national importance, previously home to three of Sri Lanka’s political leaders, and in 2005 was re-purposed into a unique hotel. With just 10 suites, you'll feel wrapped in luxury yet also perfectly at home and, with its location in one of Colombo's most upmarket suburbs, well-placed to discover everything the capital has to offer.
From $90 person/night
The location! A short tuk-tuk journey will get you to almost anywhere you need to be - and the leafy streets and quiet(er) roads are lovely to return to.
The Royal Suite is unsurprisingly fit for a King, but we rather like the Superior Suite with its private outdoor lounge and plunge pool.
The swimming pool is designed for laps, so not somewhere you might lounge.
Dating right back to the 1930s, the decor and architecture of the Tintagel certainly whisk you back to an elegant time of yore, but there are some modern additions to enjoy too, namely a swimming pool, spa and gym. The hotel is incredibly centrally located and there are a plethora of restaurants on the doorstep, but be sure to sample some of the culinary delights in the hotel. The Sri Lankan breakfast is a showstopper - so good, in fact, that you'll have to order the day before!
There are 10 suites at the Tintagel ranging from executive, to superior, to royal. Featuring timber floors and airy, high ceilings, the interiors are are bold and colourful and the design is incredibly unique. Each room type has something different to enjoy (courtyards or balconies and individual colour schemes) but all have satellite TVs, a well-stocked minibar and hand-tiled, mosaic bathrooms with gorgeous bathtubs, perfect for an evening soak.
Tintagel is perfectly located for hitting the high-end boutiques and restaurants of Colombo's upmarket Cinnamon Gardens. If you wished your home looked anything close to Tintagel, then head to Paradise Road (a short stroll away) for fabulous interior pieces and fabrics. The city's must see museums and temples are only ever a short tuk-tuk journey away, and the hotel will happily book you a car and driver for your own tailored itineraries and historical city tours.
