A child-free retreat in the heart of Victoria Falls, Shongwe Oasis is all about R&R. Every space at the Oasis is made for ensuring the utmost relaxation, from loungers in the pool to baobab milk baths at the spa. Just 2 kilometres away from the enthralling Falls, there is also plenty to do whether it's a languid cruise on the Zambezi, a helicopter flight above the rising mist, or spotting wild dog, hyena and antelope in the national park. After a day like this, it's only right to raise a toast with a glass of Zimbabwe's own Kumusha wine.
From $130 person/night
The Shongwe Oasis is just a kilometre from Victoria Falls Town so exploring is a breeze, yet it feels far away from anything and anyone.
Whether you're newlyweds or not, the honeymoon suites are rather tempting with a spacious outdoor shower and king bed.
The rooms all face the central pool and dining area, which doesn't provide a winning view - but it's supremely quiet.
At the centre of the property, you'll find a Jacuzzi and lovely tiered pool where you can enjoy a chilled drink from a lounger in the water. Shaded by stretched canvas, the bar and dining area is decorated with ornate lamps, and has a fantastic social atmosphere. Chef Jason and his team serve a variety of scrumptious dishes, prepared with fresh local ingredients. When you're in need of a pamper, head to the Mvula Spa for a massage or locally-inspired treatment.
Set in pretty gardens shaded by teak trees, Shongwe has a total of 19 rooms including triple set-ups for families. Decorated in soft shades of camel and grey, the rooms all have four-poster beds draped in netting, prints inspired by the Zambezi's vivid bird- and wildlife, and the work of local artisans. Behind an opaque glass screen, there is a beautifully-designed open-plan bathroom, and sliding doors lead onto a private patio. For added comfort, there's an air-con in each room.
When you're not lazing in the pool, there's plenty of activities to dive into. Explore Victoria Falls to the fullest, whether it's on a walking tour, helicopter flight or a history-filled ride on the Bamba Tram, ending with a hearty breakfast or sundowners. For a touch more adventure, go white-water rafting followed by a dip in the Zambezi. Then again, you might prefer to add a dash more safari to your trip with a game drive or bush walk.
