For modern day explorers of Victoria Falls, the Stanley Safari Lodge ticks quite a few boxes. Located on the edge of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, views take in acres of unspoilt bush framed by the glinting Zambezi in the distance and that eponymous misty spray. A 20 minute drive takes you straight to the heart of the action where tours of the Falls, helicopter flights, river cruises and rafting await. Then again, there’s nothing stopping you from relaxing by the pool or on your private veranda and watching the dazzling sunsets… The choice is yours.
From $430 person/night
It’s hard to choose between the relaxed, safari-style atmosphere, the intimacy, and the fab views. Let us know…
Don’t forget your camera on the drive from the lodge to the Falls – it’s not unusual to see foraging warthogs or patient pachyderms strolling across the road.
The lodge is perched on top of a hill near the edge of the national park not actually on the Zambezi River as most others are in this region.
Not surprisingly, every corner of the open-sided main house makes the most of the panoramic vistas and the classic African style décor lets the view do the talking. For prime sunset watching, head to the upper deck with a sundowner and during the day, the well-stocked library is a good spot to relax. There’s also an infinity pool and pretty manicured gardens that attract a variety of equally as pretty birds if you’re keen to tick some species off the list.
There are 10 rooms in total (4 suites and 6 cottages) all of which have been individually designed in a unique Afro-chic style. The closed rooms are air-conditioned which comes in useful in the hot season, however the open-sided rooms are a real treat for bush-lovers. All rooms have private seating areas and spacious bathrooms, but for something extra special, book the honeymoon suite complete with private plunge pool, cosy sitting room & fireplace and the ultimate ‘loo with a view.'
Show all activities
There’s an activity for everyone at Victoria Falls and all of them can be done from Stanley. Included in the rates are a guided walk around the Falls and a village tour and for all other activities Stanley will transfer you into Livingstone, the adventure capital of the continent and a 20 minute drive away. High on our list of recommendations are helicopter flights above the gorge or a slightly more sedate river cruise, both of which can be booked in advance.
Stanley Safari Lodge is owned by Robin Pope Safaris, and committed to responsible tourism that benefits the environment, wildlife conservation, and local communities. They employ green technology, support anti-poaching efforts, provide healthcare and education, and promote local trade. Staff are treated fairly, trained extensively, and encouraged to advance. Their operations aim to protect ecosystems and alleviate poverty through sustainable practices.
A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
