The five-star Clarendon Fresnaye is an understatedly elegant guesthouse on the slopes of Lion's Head in the well-heeled Cape Town suburb of Fresnaye. Overlooking the Atlantic, it offers great views of the indigo ocean and its beautiful coastline, with sunsets striping the water in every shade of red, orange and pink. The property itself is interesting – once owned by the Governor of the Cape, it also belonged to the Earl of Clarendon. Families, honeymooners and travelers looking for exclusivity are welcomed at this gracious guesthouse, the perfect retreat if you're visiting Cape Town.

Fresnaye, where the hotel is situated, is a peaceful and beautiful part of Cape Town that’s close to all the main attractions but also has a great local vibe.
Emmy, the fantastic manager, runs the guesthouse as if it were her own home. A true gem and one of the loveliest people we’ve ever met.
Some of the standard rooms don’t have a balcony, but you can sit elsewhere in the hotel for your evening G&T.
The Clarendon Fresnaye is a grand historic home that has been beautifully and sympathetically modernized. The colonial architecture, gracious furniture and fittings add to the refined atmosphere. Meals are served in the intimate dining room, and seating areas lure you to sit and admire the view. Outside, the garden is lush, with rich green lawns, a riot of bougainvillea and a sparkling swimming pool. There are also facilities for meetings and functions, and small weddings.
Eight standard rooms, five superior rooms and two family suites overlook the lovely gardens, the towering mountain or the sea. All are spacious and elegantly decorated to blend the old with the new, the traditional influences with modern services and facilities such as satellite TV, a minibar, aircon, Wi-Fi and a safe. The en-suite bathrooms have plush towels and top-quality toiletries. Everyone deserves to sip champagne in their bubble bath.

Loved this boutique hotel. The staff were super nice and helpful and we wanted for nothing. We were only B & B but the choice and quality of food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was large and spacious, as was the bed and it was one of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in. We will definitely be visiting again in the future.
