This is a hotel that belongs on the pages of a design magazine and the attention to detail throughout, from the hand-carved architecture to the local antiques, is impeccable.
Some of the rooms don't actually have an sea view at Baraza and we highly recommend trying to snap up an Oceanfront Villa - waking up in the morning to the waves is hard to beat after all.
The snorkelling and dive sites here aren't the best on the island. It's possible to snorkel off the beach at low tide, but the best opportunities for both are to head out further afield on the dive boat.
All the Zanzibari furniture in Baraza is handmade by local artisans and combined with some beautiful antiques this gives a feeling of staying in a traditional Sultan's Palace. Baraza has a range of terraces, bars and restaurants where the head chef designs menus which feature the very best produce that the island has to offer. Inspired by Indian, Swahili and Asian influences using all the spices for which Zanzibar is famous.
Baraza has 30 luxurious villas which are located either on the beach or in the gardens, they have one or two bedrooms and all have a plunge pool with a large private terrace. Complete with TV, DVD, music system, mini bar and tea/coffee making facilities, the villas create a relaxing private space for guests to enjoy.

The Water Club is Baraza's water sports centre located just 300m from Baraza on the Bwejuu beach front. They provide a great selection of new equipment and instruction in wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing. You can also borrow a bike to cycle down the beautiful white beaches of the east coast, or take a trip out to the reef to explore the marine life with snorkel, mask and fins. Cultural trips to Stone Town are a recommended excursion during your stay here.
In the gin-clear ocean around Zanzibar, marvel at bright corals with over 450 species of tropical fish, octopus, stingrays, moray eels, green turtles, hawksbill turtles, dolphins, humpback whales, and if you are very lucky: whales sharks and manta rays. In the coastal forests, spot the colobus and Sykes monkeys, bush babies, more than 50 species of butterfly, as well as brilliant bird species.
