Tucked away between Lake Naivasha and Mount Longonot, Ol Bobongi House takes privacy to a new level. It has the comfort and top-notch facilities of a hotel, all rolled into an intimate tented retreat. Everything is done ‘just so’ and you’ll be well taken care of by the attentive cook and housekeeper. With the plains of Nakuru as your backyard, you can spend your stay enjoying the sweet spot between a wild adventure and true relaxation. Gaze out over Lake Naivasha from your patio or take a dip in the glorious heated pool, alongside the company you choose - the camp only has two rooms after all. Wildlife also beckons from beyond your tent flap and a bush walk is definitely in order (but more on that later).
From $240 person/night
The intimacy of Susie’s Camp - with space for just over 4 guests and a tight-knit staff, a personal experience is the name of the game.
Be sure to request sundowners, which are a real highlight, accompanied by breathtaking sunset views of the countryside.
If you’re not one for a secluded setting and the (albeit fancy) tent life, this might not be the place for you.
Picture three spacious tent cottages, knitted together with canvas, wood and stone - and topped with a classic thatched roof to complete the image. Ol Bobongi is a secluded camp that promises excellence in service and privacy, and there are just two tents for accommodation whilst the third is home to a rustic breakfast bar, a dining veranda and shaded relaxation spot right next to the inviting freeform pool. They are known for their service, and Sammy the chef doesn’t disappoint with her hearty meals. A cosy lounge awaits inside where you’ll also find a laptop-friendly workspace (along with a friendly pooch).
Decorated with rustic yet chic themes, add hues of green and grey to the mix and an antique or two, and you have Ol Bobongi. Simple yet tastefully furnished, the large tented cottages boast comfortable king-sized beds, your own sitting area and well-designed en-suite bathrooms (with a dressing room thrown in as well). Your private patio is decked out with safari chairs and unforgettable views across the Kenyan landscape. Bonus - for any families, there is plenty of space for additional beds for the kids.
While Ol Bobongi is like a little slice of tranquillity, it also happens to be close to plenty of well-loved tourist destinations. Lake Naivasha is top of the list, a Great Rift Valley gem with plenty of water sports, horse riding and hiking opportunities. Keep an eye out for the hippos and flamingos that have made the area famous (as well as some 400 bird species). Crescent Island is a fantastic spot for a leisurely walk and a picnic, while Mount Longonot has your cardio covered - the incredible views are worth it though. If you’re up for a spot of agrotourism, local coffee cherry-picking is a fantastic choice. For any curio shop needs, Lake Elementatia Weavers and Fired Earth Pottery is a local favourite.
Show all wildlife
Species such as hippo, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, warthog, eland and a small population of cheetah, lion and leopard are just a few of the animals you might encounter while exploring the undulating grasslands around Lake Niavasha. Somewhat off the beaten track, experience wildlife present in the region and in the nearby Hell's Gate National Park.
