It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of The River Club as a lodge, effective1st January 2024
This luxurious little lodge is positioned on the banks of the Zambezi River a short distance from the historical town of Livingstone, just upstream from the mighty Victoria Falls. Set back in the Livingstone era, relax in colonial style as your every need is tended to by the helpful local staff and butlers. Spend your days watching the resident wildlife come down to the water to drink, marvel at the Victoria Falls with a flight above the area, or just while away your time, overlooking the hippo-dotted waters with the mist of the Falls float up in the distance.
From $760 person/night
The restored, 1940s homestead that forms the central part of the lodge and all the history that goes with it.
Dinner is served in the dining room and is quite a formal (and boozy!) affair, but private dinners are also available if you’d like something a little quieter.
Some of the colonial touches – the billiard room, the croquet lawn and the waiter’s outfits – can feel a little contrived.
The communal areas of The River Club are in a restored old farmhouse known as Zambezi House. A multiple-level building houses the sitting room, dining area and a library with a unique range of old and new books. Head outside to enjoy meals and tea produced on the spacious veranda, where beyond are tennis courts, a bowling green and a croquet lawn. The infinity pool stretches down towards the river, with the gym, jacuzzi and wellness spa close at hand.
The 11 private suites are well spaced along the river's edge, offering privacy and seclusion. The rooms showcase the heritage of the area with black and white framed pictures, antique four-poster beds, mosquito nets and an intimate sitting space for reading and relaxation. The en-suite comes complete with ball and claw tub and shower. Outside the rooms are spectacular views of the water from a personal deck adorned with wicker furniture. Recently, the Princess Mary Suite was added to the lodging with a private plunge pool an equally intimate setting.

Activities at The River Club are based around the Zambezi River. The mighty Victoria Falls is a 45 minute drive away, ensuring the crowds are avoided on this stretch of the River. Take a boat cruise, local beer in hand, enjoying the riverside wildlife with a setting sun. If you feel like staying put at the lodge, just lounge by the pool, play tennis and swing a croquet mallet. For the more adventures, there is bungee jumping, gorge swinging and white water rafting in the Batoka Gorge below the Falls.
