About Hotel Grano De Oro

In the thick of San Jose, with its myriad museums and green parks, the Hotel Grano de Oro is a piece of the city's history. Once the home of a prominent family, the Victorian exteriors set the tone of your stay and the coffee walls, white trims and turrets are undeniably handsome. Inside, the grand features continue: a Titanic-esque wooden staircase lead to corridors lined with black-and-white photographs and original artwork, and Italian fountains bubble in the atmospheric atriums. The smartly-dressed staff are always at the ready to assist with recommendations or arranging in-room massages but best of all is the restaurant. One of San José's finest, don't skip their signature Grano de Oro pie!

What you'll love

Feeling like you've stepped back in time in this Gatsby-style mansion and dining at one of San Jose's finest restaurants, just downstairs from your room.

Insiders tip

If you're leaving early for a day trip or the next leg of your journey, the kitchen will prepare a handy breakfast box.

Something to think about

You might miss the pool if you enjoy having a spot to cool off and relax, but the rooftop terrace is a great alternative.

The property

Dominated by heavy wooden columns, the lounge and restaurant are elegant and airy with plush rugs and plenty of tropical greens dotted around. The best seat, though, is in the pretty atrium for a candlelit dinner of French-Mediterranean fare, accompanied by a cocktail or vintage wine. On the rooftop terrace, you'll find a pair of hot tubs and sun loungers, while massages are offered at the small spa. Visit the gift shop to pick up handmade crafts and souvenirs to remember your trip by.

The rooms

Spread across three floors, the rooms are boutique in their design, some with features from the original house and others with more modern touch. All have a wrought iron bed and wicker chairs with subtle artwork adorning the walls. Certain rooms enjoy a private garden courtyard for a break from the hustle and bustle of San Jose. The grandest of all, the Vista de Oro, is beautifully decorated with antiques and vintage pieces, and boasts a private entrance, Jacuzzi and views of the Central Valley skyline. The family suite has two bedrooms with a shared bathroom.
