The best way to experience South Africa’s Garden Route coastline is to jump in a car and take it at your own pace - and this route does exactly that.
What you'll do
You’ll ease into your Garden Route expedition with a few days at the lovely Welgelegen House in Cape Town; whether you want to hike to the top of Table Mountain, party with the glitterati, or shop till you drop, it’s a city that never disappoints.
Then it’s time to pick up your hire car and meander on to the Franschhoek Valley, to sample the Cape's finest wining and dining, and enjoy some small town hospitality. Your journey continues down the coast to Hermanus, famous for its dramatic landscapes, whale sightings (June to November) and excellent dining at the Auberge Burgundy.
Your final stop is the supremely picturesque Knysna where you could enjoy a catamaran cruise around the Heads followed by crayfish at the harbour or hike into its lush forests. And the sublime views will never be out of sight at the Leisure Isle Boutique Lodge...
